Can someone please tell me the length of the rear drive shaft in a 87 short bed 700r4 - 208 case, from center of u-joint cap to center of cap.mine measures 40 1/2 inches. I think maybe my truck has a drive shaft out of a K5 Blazer because it seems to be short. It has a 6 inch lift and I think I only have about 4 inches of the slip yoke on the splines in the transfer case.

Just measured my own (stock height 83 SWB K10, 700R4, NP-208 with 3/4 ton SF 9 1/2" ring gear 14 bolt rear). The stock shaft is right at 40 1/2" center-to-center on the u-joints.

After adding the 9 1/2" rear end and when fully loaded that drive shaft is dangerously close to ramming into the NP-208. If I had the luxury of time and money I'd have it shortened 3/4" at the local machine shop.

If you haven't already done do, I'd loosen the rear u-joint and slide it forward to check clearance. I suspect that you may be OK.:party36:
