Dome light with headliner

My '77 came with a dome light, but it's a lower trim truck and has no headliner. Will the original dome light work with a headliner, or did they use a special one to account for the extra thickness? I got the USA1 headliner, it's perforated vinyl, with rather thick padding, and a solid plastic backer. Two plastic spacers are used with the headliner and possibly longer screws. Probably be fine without the spacers.
