Hey guys, i am trying to settle a argument with a friend of mine. He is one of those friends who lies about everything and when he talks you know hes lieing. lol

It pisses everyone off!!He has a 79 f250 and was telling eveybody that he had FLeetpride ( a driveline company) install clutches into his open rear diff to make it a posi.

Is this even possible. I have never ever heard of that. I know its not a square question but i am just wondering because the one thing that i truly hate is A LIER!

What did it cost? You can get a "lunchbox locker" that takes place of the spider gears in an open diff, but they aren't cheap. Lock Right is one for example. They cost $350-$400 roughly.

******** !!! That's NOT possible. He'd have to swap to a LSD (Limited Slip Differential) Carrier unit, like an Auburn or Eaton unit to do that.

Now maybe it's possible he had a Limited Slip Diff Carrier and the clutches were wore out and they replaced the clutches. But not in an open diff.

And the lunchbox locker or even Detroit Locker which is a carrier replacelement unit, DO NOT have clutches.

FleetPride is usually a Medium and Heavy Duty truck supplier parts. Like switches and seats, and straps, lights, horns etc etc.

The Powertrax No-Slip is a lunchbox style limited slip, so it is possible but I am not sure if it is clutch-actuated, spring, or something else. The description just says it eliminates the "ratcheting" sound lockers have for smoother actuation. These are more commonly used on front axle setups in mud racing to help eliminate locker or spool "pull" when WOT.

I was just thinking that maybe the friend misunderstood and thought any "posi" type setup used clutches?

Not even PowerTraxx No Slip uses clutches. Eatopn SureTrac is one that uses Clutches.
