what are the major visual differences between the two. sorry i just want to make sure i get this completely understood haha so all d60s only have 3 u-bolt and all d44s have 4? which would make this axle a d44...correct? im curious if the sideways 6 or 9 looking thing means anything? I just picked up another 1/2 ton with swapped axles and i want to be positive what i have. I know it was a FF14bolt rear but im not positive about the front. thanks all.

3 u-bolts on the D60, also the D60 has kingpins and no balljoints (newer ones do though). D60 has "D60" embossed on the webbing facing forward.

Less than 1/4 the way down the page on the link I posted shows a diagram of where and what the different stampings mean. I assume the one you're talking about is on the lower passenger side webbing, mine has it too you can see it in the pic. I dont guess it means anything since it is not mentioned in the diagram.

i was told the differential cover uses a 1/2" wrench on the 44 and a 9/16" wrench on the 60.

Be careful counting u-bolts, a Dodge D44 uses 3 u-bolts also. The biggest telltale sign is the steering arm - D44 uses 3 studs in an row while a D60 uses 4 studs in a square pattern.

BTW, Nice Looking Truck. Get a plunger and work that dent out of the door. I'm not a fan of visors at all. Not sure if it's the color, being 1 solid color, the lift, or what, but that visor on that truck doesn't look so bad.

thanks i thought so as well, but i cant stand the body lift. the gaps ruin the beauty of a squarebody so i think that will be coming out and i'm going to be running some 33" or 34" swampers.

I agree about the body lifts and gaps. I'd consider 1 and at the most 2 inches the max if you needed some more lift. At this point, if you're not hauling much, rather than remove the body lift which is some work, might consider just raising the bumpers if it's legal.
