Does anyone know what this used to be? Located just aft of the cab on the drivers side, looks like it was an originally piece to the truck but someone has cut it out along the way. Exhaust support maybe?

Could be the aux tank wiring, it's the right spot for it.

If you have or had dual tanks the metal hard lines attach and run across on that member. Maybe all trucks got it. Not sure.

Thats the one just in front of the cut off bracket with the body mounts on it, and further off in the background is the trans crossmember.

Notice the 2 separate cab mounts the crossmember that holds the fuel lines and wiring on a C series truck bolts to these mounts just to hold those items. The K series trucks I believe have a solid crossmember that the cab mounts and aux tank wiring and lines bolt to. The circled piece (the cut piece on both mine and his trucks) behind the cab mount is a factory exhaust hanger bracket

I can probably get a picture of what it's supposed to look like later

Sounds like the general consensus is an exhaust hanger, thanks yall!

That cut wire harness there was for the tail-lights. It had a flat bed on it but the lights were hard wired in, no way to separate from the truck without cutting the harness. I sold the bed and sent the whole harness with it, so I’ve been watching for a harness out of a junkyard truck to replace it with.

It seems to be a year/wheelbase thing that determines if the rear cab mounts were separate or on a single crossmember. Rather than a C/K thing.

Thought maybe a C/K thing as I haven't messed with many Ks and just figured they had the full rail for extra rigidity, but I can see year or wheelbase being the difference.

Iirc, my '84 C10 shortbed has the full crossmember but my '77/'78 K10 shortbed does not. I'll have to go crawl around. I don't remember what the other trucks have.

If the truck has the camper special or trailering special option, that may be the reason for the cut wires. My camper special wiring was cut at about that point, and it apparently used to have wires running from there up to the camper.

First picture from 78 K10 shortbed, 2nd is from 1980 round eye K10 long bed. My 83 c10 GMC doesn't have it at this time.
