AGAIN I'm old so you'll just have to ignore me, still the only numbers I'm interested in are the ones I quoted before. It looks like in 10-15 years this may be a moot point anyway if they can find enough electricity to run all these "green" cars?

One less even: PRNDM vs PRND21

Crap, you're right! I had to rebuild my 6L80 after it burned up on us in Montana over the last July 4th weekend and it was crazy expensive and a huge PITA... so I'm not a big fan. Give me a simple tried and true 4L80E all day long.

Right on, and there cheap to buy, and you can rebuild one yourself cheap, relatively speaking, that will take lots of abuse.

Ok so first there was old LT1's and new LT1's, then there was old LS6's and new LS6's... now you're telling me there's old genV's and new genV's too? What a crazy, mixed up world this is! :D

I've been reading here and there issues with the 6L80. You would think the 80 means heavier duty. I'm getting the impression that it's not. From what I've read, yes a 4L60 would be more dependable the a 6L80. The 6L90 I've not seen this issue.

Please do some research on the 6L80 vs 6L90 before you pull the trigger. Could turn out to be very expensive if you don't.

Also, with a Gen V engine, are you planning on doing an AFM/DOD delete or are you going to leave stock? From the kits I've seen, that could run $1,000 and up depending on used parts. Just a heads up. If you don't convert, you run the risk of the lifters failing costing more possibly.

The above info has actually stalled my want for a 6L80 any time soon in my truck.

Again, please research plenty for your wallets sake lol. Create a spreadsheet with all options and possible failure costs (due to known issues you'll find on the web) later down the road.

GM hasn't made a big block in a production vehicle(outside medium duty and above) since what... 2004? That's when the 8.1L was no longer offered as an option on even 3/4 and 1 ton vehicles. I think you could get it in the topkicks up through 2008 or 2009, and then it was completely phased out.

You could get the 8.1 until '07 in the "Classic" trucks, but they were phased out by 2009 when GM went belly up. PSI now owns the design and bumped it to an 8.8L!!

The plan was to keep the 5.3 stock as possible, just retrofitting it. Im not actually sure about the positions, I will have to find a way to get a peek in one of that era to find out.
i use Tejas steel work motor mount on mine fite perfect! even the 4L80E fit at the right place! :)

OK so I'm old and pretty much set in my ways. If I don't see numbers for displacement my old Chevy history kicks in, so that's where I got screwed up.....Gen V, Gen VI, LS....just give me my old 327s, 396s and 427s and I'll be happy......327=SBC....396 and 427=BBC, ok I'm done???

Are you aware that they made SBCs with 4 bolt mains. They made a 350 and even a 400. If you are lucky, you can get a crank from a 400, put it in a 350 and you get a 383. WOW!

Yes, I have 3 "350" 4 bolt main blocks in my storage. You are aware that these "350" blocks could be 327s or many other displacements just by using the large journal crank, right? When I was at the Chevy store, we saw a LOT of sbc 400s lose the cranks, mostly because they lost oiling. Seems Chevy corrected the "problem" quickly, anyway for us at the dealership. Never have been a "383" fan, that's always been a dogdgdg engine?
