Seller “believes” the trucks paint is original, never re-sprayed. Today he posted several pictures of paint thickness readings from around the truck, which were all fairly close. I am not sure how to determine if it’s an original paint or re-paint though. Was hoping someone here with paint and body experience could help.

This truck has definitely caught my attention. Looks to be in great condition, factory 454, unmolested, lots of documentation. I am considering bidding on it to go along with my Blazer. What would you guess it would sell for?

Looks like $35k with one day to go. Nicely equipped for that era truck. Hope you can pull it in

I am not an expert but those readings would tell me it is original. I think respray would be higher numbers. My low mile classic cars often have readings in this range if they have never been redone.

I would just not pay that much. I saw quite a few very nice squares go over the Barrett Jackson auction block that were as nice, and half the price. The GMC sold for 24000, cherry. The woodie, Idahovette@ would dig that.......Go to an Meacom? or Barrett Jackson auction, sick deals there.

I guess you are paying for "they are only original once" premium - but I would definitely want to look at it in person to be sure, before handing over that much dough. Then of course I would be worried about driving it in the wild, adding too many miles, potential loss of value etc. Not really a great combo for having fun - but that's just me ( guess that's why I drive S**t boxes, cos its a truck at the end of the day, and I want to be happy using it, not just looking at it. Lovely truck tho', my favourite colour combo, and with ( most ) of the wood grain too! ..

Not givin it away for sure. But 1st year 454 original half ton, yeah it’ll bring some big bucks.
There are zero indications I see that the truck isn’t 100% original (minus new exhaust, seat maybe, etc).
Paint as well. After zooming in multiple photos where you’d likely see some evidence of a re-spray combined with the fact that no one ever even opened up a spray can of black paint on the chasssi anywhere plus some evidence of wear through in the nooks and crannies like the corners if the tailgate trim, there is nothing in the pics that suggest any painting has occurred since the assembly line.
And the mil thicknesses adjectivally prove it as well. “if” that truck needed repainted any time, as nice as it is, it would most likely be a fair bit thicker and not as consistent.
Even a single stage re-spray, would likely be quality with a truck like this and any good painter would/should lay more paint on the areas subject to UV damage or wear n tear. Which is also not the case.
99.9% certain original

Thanks. It also still has the original points type distributor.

Saw that. And the original plastic carpet covering.
Was one of the things that supported the low miles and care of the 77 I bought. A nicely yellowed almost 50 year old piece of plastic. That went straight in the trash but was evidence of originality.

One thing I’m not sure of is the black instrument bezel. I think that should be woodgrain for the Cheyenne trim.

Just looked at the 73 truck brochure. You familiar with Deezos Garage online? They have all the vehicle brochures.
Looks like Cheyenne Super was wood grain dah bezel with wood grain door panels. Cheyenne had wood grain doors black bezel. So if it’s not a Super then I’d say it’s correct.
