Hi All
I have a 1989 Burb all original parts including the CAT at 203,000 miles runs great (so far). How to check if I should replace the CAT, Leave it alone, or just remove it??

Thanks

You can test them in several ways and you'd need to use 2 to tests 1 for pressure and 1 for temperature. But if you aren't having a problem, let sleeping dogs lie. You can test for vacuum drop,or inlet back pressure, with a vacuum gauge/fuel pressure tester. Check inlet vs. Outlet temps with a non contact thermometer. But again I agree with @Grit dog leave it alone.

Those old pancake style cats were restrictive when new, I definitely felt a horsepower bump when I switched to a modern honeycomb cat.

I agree, the old pellet style converters suck. Putting a newer converter on it will probably lessen you're emissions and it will also give you some more horsetorques.
