I like my old truck the way it is. Maybe you just need to buy a modern truck.
Got two of them. Notice the handles on my 21 AT4. Apparently GM hasn't changed the design of them since the 90's.....hmmmm.

Mine are all easy. I lube mine though. I lube around the button in the crack then the door latch mechanism, that's all it takes really. That also helps the door close easier too, the only con is the mess. Even lube the key slot once a year.

Its crazy how nice stuff works when it's lubed.
Maybe living 5 miles downwind of the Imperial Sand Dunes has something to do with it? Lol

I'm sure it doesn't help!! Maybe polished stuff up! Take some compressed air to all the components, then maybe a dry lube.

LOL… How many late model GM trucks have you noticed with busted tailgate latches or trim. How many plastic retainers on door handle rods have ruined your day.

The thing GM isn’t known for is quality tailgate latches, door handles, and rod clips.

Yep, I bought some new clips after I wired them on but yet to install them and it’s been 10 years already. I put my trim back on with some 3m two sided tape.

I've had 4 of these squarebody since 1988. I never had an issue opening them. Only thing that has broken on one of my trucks was that tension spring inside the button. Just allowed that push button knob to waller around some....

Update: So when I was picking up my new driveshafts this weekend, there was a squarebody in the shop that recently came out of the paint shop. While looking over the truck with the shop owner, I opened the door to look inside. I was pleasantly surprised the door latch opened quite smoothly with minimal effort. I'm now convinced the factory system can operate and behave nicely. I just gotta figure out what I'm going to do with my extra set to make them work like his did.

SR - I’d be more incline to find a few fellas (or gals) with your style of buggy - and ask em if you can just open their doors to get a feel of the pressure required… my 86 K10 buttons push like butter … now the passenger door lock - well that’s a different story! Sometimes I can’t open the passenger door lock with the key or the elec button - hafta lean over and give the plunger a good hard yank!!
Anyway - just my nickel on the grass thoughts 4 ya.

Mine are super easy to open, takes very little pressure to pop the thumb button in
