Let's get straight to the point.
1983 Chevy C10, Silverado with an sbc 305.
I replaced my head gasket with some steel head gaskets that require a torque after first heat cycle as it expands. Well, I forgot to and had a misfire and it started seeping gas out the side of the block on cylinder #8. Well, fine. I retorqued the heads and the bolts near number #8 cylinder was really loose for some reason. I retorqued in sequence and it stopped seeping.
However, when the engine gets a little hot (and I mean like about a 30 seconds to a minute), I start seeing like campfire smoke out the passenger exhaust (and only passenger side). Not white smoke like coolant, it almost smells like rich gas and looks like smoke from a campfire and disipates quickly, and the engine runs a little rough. Wondering if it was because I was lazy and didn't adjust valve lash that day? I always just turn it on as it sits right now to move it out of the way when I need to. I'm going to adjust lash soon while the engine is running, I'm just curious if this could be it so I know if I should expect worse. I have a compression tester and haven't done it yet. Should I before and after valve adjustment? Thanks.
There is no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. Engine does not overheat and coolant and oil level is fine. Vacuum gauge goes from 18 - 20 and is a little Shakey between there.
Plus, another thing. Is there a better way to disconnect fuel without putting it in a bucket? Should I just remove the carb when doing compression test? Please tell me the best way because I hate having to waste gas in the disgusting buckets I have.
