I've got a '73 C20 454 with HEI. It's down for the count - turns over, but not starting. This weekend I'm going to go through things and troubleshoot/replace.

Any thoughts on which spark plugs/wires/distributors/coils are the best for this truck? Perhaps with a bias toward O'Reilly stores, because it's walking distance?

Thanks!

The truck must have been converted at some point. HEI from what I understand didn't come into affect until 75.

Regarding plugs .. AC Delcos gapped to .45 and distributor what is affordable to you. HEIs are all generally the same.

Yeah, I was surprised to find it, when I went to replace that coil. Personally, I wish they'd left it alone as the original, but oh well.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Make sure the power for the distributor is wired properly and not using the old points wire. The points wire doesn't give proper voltage.

The proper wire... I'm assuming it should be a smaller gauge than the original?

I wanted to double check - I have a discrepancy.

A previous poster in this thread mentioned .45 gap
When I picked up these ACdelco plugs, the guy wrote on the box "gap .035"

which is right?

0.030-0.035 is for points. You asked for plugs to fit your truck and that means it should have had points. Your truck has been converted to HEI now it needs to be 0.040-0.045

And regarding the wire.. The Bat + off the HEI needs to have a igntion powered 12 constant source.
