This crossmember drop trick is also good to know if anybody puts a 2wd cab on a 4wd frame to help with floor clearance issues. :High 5:

That I was aware of. I was thinking of doing a 2wd Cab on my 85K10, but doing a 2inch body lift instead of using the 4wd hump. That would sure make for a long reach to shift the Tcase though. Although, probably not so bad. Not like you are constantly shifting it.

Make an extension.

I know this thread is a bit old but I have a quick question for you guys, I have a slightly bent crossmember from my front drive shaft braking loose from the yoke and smashing my tranny, fuel lines and the CM,,, is there a way to straighten it out? say i put some weight on it, like a small car to bend it back?? or drill the holes a bit bigger on the CM, its only bent a tiny bit. Or do I just need to go to the pick and pull and find one?... thanks for any help

A torch and a BFH might be able to adjust it if a little is all it needs. Often times pulling a car onto something to slightly adjust something usually adjusts a little too far.

As long as the trans mount doesn't get bound up by moving it. Can you just use a spud to align one of the holes so you can get a bolt in the other?

whats a spud? I can get two bolts in on one side but the other is about 1/8" off... thats why i thought about drilling the crossmember bolt hole larger...
thanks

Put the two in you can and leave them loose. The spud tool is a pointed spike basically to pry to crossmember into position where you can put a third bolt in and the pull the tool out and put the fouth bolt in and tighted them all down after that. Mine was bent towards th back some and i hooked my winch cable off my rollback to it and wedged the back tires againts the bed and pulled slight pressure on it towards the front and got it pretty close only to bend it back again about a week later playing in some rock piles out behind the shop.

The local Tractor Supply has these spud wrenches in their bargain bin as of earlier this past week...
