just bought a beat up 90 single cab flatbed 3500 simply to harvest the 454 that resides in it...transmission I'm assuming is a TH400 to go with it. Looking at an 86 reg cab swb 4 X 4 with tranny issues. my "ambitious" project would be to join the two together in holy matrimony and spend countless and unobtainable dollars on it. Big block SWB 4 X 4 may just tickle my fancy? Hope to learn more from the square body masses as time goes on...

if your 90 is 4x4 and has an NP205 in it, you might want to hold on to it. Hard to come by and it's cheaper to mate the 6 speed auto 6L80 tranny to it.

no it's a 2wd unfortunately but already i'm paying attention...if I hear what you're sayin, I need to keep my eyes peeled for an NP205 and a 6L80 tranny to bolt up to the 454 and all this should fit effortlessly into the 86 swb?

not sure what motor/trans/transfer case is in the 86 but do know it's a 1/2 ton

NP205 is: a) preferred for durability, b) standard in a 3500, or c) standard bolt-up with a 6L80 tranny?

not easy at all. You'll need to do some research. I'm going through an LS swap but wish I had an engine w/6l80 to put in. If I had an NP205 circle pattern, I would be one step closer and would pursue it. Funds are stopping me.

a - yes
b - some came with it
c - $120 adapter from Advanced Adapters, yes an NP 205 with CIRCLE BOLT PATTERN will bolt up to a 6L80.
