Alternator setup

I am having problems getting my truck to run properly. I removed the external ford alternator I belive it was a 140A which was producing 17 volts, I bought a GM alternator it is the external fan delco remy 140A with 3 wires I am lost where to connect these wires to from my wiring harness. My gmc yukon is a 1998 5.7

You need to take a couple of steps back. How did your ‘98 Chevy end up with a Ford alternator, and who figured out (or screwed up) how to wire it? A stock replacement GM alternator should just plug right into the stock harness.

I'm not aware of gm making an external regulator alternator in decades. You are going g to need to get a schematic for your truck and a schematic for whatever that alternator is supposed to fit,and use some common sense.
