My 87 has an odd looking dome light that does not work. I want to replace it with a working one.

Any suggestions on how to trace the wires going to it and how to install one that functions like the original (opens door and light comes on, closes door light goes off)?

I have another aftermarket light to install but I want to get everyone's opinion.

BTW I have no headliner.

Also is there supposed to be A light to illuminate the Climate controls?

this is the wires for a 75 it plugs into the fuse box, and the wire on the floor goes into the pillar behind the drivers seat. some guys use led rope looks pretty cool.
