It's that time of year when I get on the road and do a lot of hauling between pastures. The K10 I bought came with a straight pipe set up, on the property going 5mph its been fine but on the road it is beyond obnoxious.

The truck runs great, if I cut the pipes and put in mufflers will I have to adjust timing and dwell? Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Unless you have a 73/74 truck you have HEI and dont have to mess with dwell, depending on the mufflers you add you may need to adjust the timing and carb if the truck runs worse.

Assuming the last owner even adjusted anything when the pipes were put on. It wouldnt be a bad idea to go over the timing and carb just because. After the muffler install of course. lol

Points dwell will not change.

If this is just a farm truck I'd keep it simple/cheap. Grab a pair of cherry bombs from the local auto parts store. They won't hurt performance because they are a straight-through design, they don't take away too much clearance under the truck due to the tube design, and they are cheap cheap cheap. I've got a set on my Camaro and while they are not my favorite tone, all of the above is still true.

I just got a stainless muffler on RockAuto for $55. I'm not after the redneck sound though-I prefer not to hear my exhaust.

I just put in set of turbo mufflers from JEGS - only $24 each and they sound good and are totally tolerable on the highway - can easily talk and hear your radio. Not stainless though and old fashioned rolled steel case so I can't say how long they will last.
