Back with another AC question. I have the everything back together in my 83 GMC and it's holding a vacuum. Next step would be adding oil and R134a. I did not add any oil to the compressor when I installed it.

What's the best way to add the oil now? Crack the suction line to the compressor and pour in and then pull a vacuum again on the system? Or use cans of oil/R134a mix when charging?

I have a vacuum pump and manifold gauge set.

Thanks for the help!

New compressors typically come with PAG oil installed. If this is a retro-fit system you will need to drain the oil and install ESTER oil. Yes, you can add oil directly into the pump or the suction line.

Thanks. The compressor is an A6 that I rebuilt and used Ester oil when reassembling. Evaporator, accumulator, and lines are all new so there shouldn't be any PAG to worry about. Condenser is original but cleaned out.
