A story you have to see on video.

I put this in General Discussion, cuz it don't fit the other categories, but it is on topics of trucks. It would sure be cool to has this kid as a member, but we'd have to clean up a bit.

notice they say his dad had a 72 and orange just like what he has and wants? Well the truck his dad is pictured in is clearly a 73-87 squarebody cab.

I was that 10 yo boy, I built my first engine with my dad when I was 13 and was over many years before that helping him sand and do body work.

What a sad story. Its cool him doing that at the age of 10 instead of on xbox live kicking my ass at video games.

Sure is. Looks like a SB to me too. The dash and location of the headlight switch, and seat belt retractor clearly show it to be a SB.

They said an alcohol related crash, so I assume drunk driving. Yep. You'd think the guy would have cared more for his family than that. I agree its an illness, but if you care about your family enough to stick around, you get treatment, or at least don't do the obvious wrongs like drink and drive. I have little sympathy for the dad who not only put hisself at risk of injury, but whoever else was on the road that night too. But I do have sympathy for the boy. He shouldn't have to deal with that. Mom had some biggo knockers, I'm sure he'll have a new dad soon.

x2 hard to feel sorry for someone who done it to themselves and was aware of what they were doing, but the boy as in most cases suffers and you can't help but feel bad for them.

I didn't even see anything else in the cab, the outside cab gave it away to me when the panned down and saw the contour/body line I knew it was a SB truck.

I feel bad for that kid being without his dad! That's gotta be hard especially for a 10 yo.

It said alcohol related so that could mean he was hit by a drunk driver right?

One way or another, alcohol played a role in the dad's death. For all we know, he could have been walking home from the bar and he was hit by a car. I think they were intentionally vague, letting the view fill in the blanks, in respect for the boy's memory of his dad.

It's hard to tell a story like that without making it seem sympathetic towards the dead, drunk, dad without losing sight of the message they were really trying to show about a boy's love for his dad. He may have been a drunk. He may have directly or indirectly killed himself as a result of his actions. At the end of the day, he still left behind and impressionable young boy.

My wife is an alcoholic. I've been scratching my brain for months to find a way to get her to recognize it in herself so she can get the help she needs. Her drinking hospitalized her this past summer when her kidneys shut down, but, all that did was result in her new found distaste for beer.

You have no real insight into alcoholism until you have become an alcoholic. I have been battling it the past years really bad, Its horrible.

Back in November of 07 my childhood friend came out to my parents house for thanksgiving, he left in a coroners van. We had a good time drinking our beers and he decided he wanted to go back to town, I told my brother to drive and guess what.... about 5 minutes after they left my brother called and said the car was upside down with my friend under it. My buddy convinced my brother he was okay to drive and rolled his car. I hauled ass over there but he was already dead, its bothered the **** out of me every day since then. The crash scene is about a half mile if that from where my ass is planted right now. Really disturbing ****.

You never really get over something like that.

In April of 1996, I had been dating a girl I'd known for many years. We were inseparable. Even though I worked a lot through school and she was on the basketball team we still saw each other as much as possible.

On Easter Sunday, I was invited over for dinner with her and her parents. I had a special evening planned. I brought out the cranberry sauce and set it in front of her. Sticking out of it was an engagement ring.

She of course said yes. We had a wonderful dinner and went to my house to watch a movie. After the movie, she had to head for home, she had to work the next day. We kissed and she drove off.

I was working as a wrecker driver for the Ohio State Police at the time and I get a call at 1AM to come get a t-bone. Fatality. I head over and it's hard to tell what kind of car it was but I immediately recognized the rebel flag plate we put on the front bumper of my fiancee's mint 1983 Trans Am.

The trooper said a drunk driver ran a stop sign at over 80 MPH. She never had a chance.

The drunk lived. Only due to professional restraint.

That was the last time I drove a wrecker for a long time. I was in a very deep depression for the next year. Lost a lot of weight - down to 97 lbs. for awhile)...

Her parents still blame me to this day though it was not my fault.

I grew up with alcoholics. Never knew my father, he left shortly after I was born.

I think we can all share stories about alcoholics. I think all families have them. My dad and 2 of my bros of us 4, are/were alcoholics. I say were becaue 1 bro is now dead. May or may not been alcohol related. He tried to save a lady and her 8yo daughter from raging flood waters, and my bro died trying along with the lady and her daughter. His body was found a week later badly decomposed and a toxicology report was done. Femoral Alcohol level was higher than normal, but we were told, that does not say he was drunk or not at the time of death because of the time lapse and decompositon. Who knows? In most eyes he went out a hero for trying and I'd rather just leave it at that and know his stuggle is over and he for once is at peace with hisself. Now my dads, gunshot accident last weekend... I just knew would be alcohol related. It wasn't. My dad hadn't anything to drink in over 4 days. He controls his drinking. He only does home alone, will not drive anywhere, not even his ATV, and will not touch a gun while under the influence, or even use a power tool like chain saw or riding lawm mower. He knows he is an alcoholic, so he says he does his best to control it and not affect himself, or anyone else, his finances etc. I guess he does OK. He is an ass when he drinks. So I have a deal with him. Don't call me when you been drinking, and if I call and you have been drinking, simply let me know that I might to call back another time.
