Will a 9.5” 6 lug light duty 3/4 rear end from an 88-up work on an 87 V10?

I swapped one in to an 88 K1500 I had about 30 years ago. I remember the 2wd vs 4wd difference. I just bought this 87 for my daughter in January. It’s got 3.42 gears and has the G80 RPO, but the locker is either broke or was swapped out. I haven’t opened it up to look yet. I want to have the locker functional before snow/ice season. I figure might as well do everything at the same time. I’d like to go to 4.10 gears. I also want to stick with 6 lug axles.Yes and no. As a direct drop in, no. But if you cut the bump stop pads , spring perches, and shock mounts and weld new perches and shock mounts yes.
The gmt400s used two different width rears, the 2wd trucks are about 3” overall narrower. You want a 4wd axle as it is wider.
I built a 9.5 for a friends 75 K5, 6 lug. The housing was a later 9.5, has a drain plug in the bottom and AAM cast on the bottom. Used 90s 6 lug shafts. I can find some pictures if interested.
