Have been lookin for another truck to mount a welder on, for an extra, and one to use as I work on my 75, to get the bed to my liking and an SA 200 mounted up. As well as working on some jobs this coming summer that it would be nice to hire a guy to help with..... meaning need more than one "rig"

That being said, have run up on an 82 Dodge 350, has a 360, 4 speed manual. A PTO wench (That would end up on the 75 set up hyd) and a nice service bed.

Question is, is the 360 worth fooling with? I know nothing about them. Is the Dodge trans and rear end any count? Are parts availabe for these old Dodges?

Thanks Fellers! Sorry to ask about a Dodge....

I don't know anything about Dodges, but I know of one here in town that is still working. It's a diesel 4x4, but it is old, multi-colored from body parts being replaced, flat bed, and is still working hard. I think the 360 is a good engine, though.

I support a Dodge 360..isn't that what they put in Internationals for a while?
I don't know but I think so!
I bet there are plenty of parts sold new even - nothing wrong with it. Rear ends? Dunno, which is it?
Trans is prolly a 727, if so - that's a th400 equilivant in the Dodge world..
Again, nothing wrong with it :imo:
Hard to tell with so many pics to look at.

Is the '82 a roundeye?
Hell, I bet there is a LMC catalog for it chock full of stuff

Isn't the th400 an auto? This is a manual, found a 78, and 79 C 30, both were auto's, I do not like automatics.

oh yeah. 4 speed. Buddy we are right near the very end of my Dodge truck knowledge.
I can add : be sure to replace the little ****** coolant bypass hose on top of the water pump - first chance you get. mmmkay? Don't say I didn't warn you..lol.

zero dodge manual trans knowledge..

now i'm thinkin brake light switch ?

i can almost set injector timing on a Cummins of that vintage...there's a deal about electronic fuel pumps I know about but won't apply..umm i'm lookin at the pictures and really don't know anything else about it. lookin at that good brass radiator.....The coolant bypass hose is KEY.

I think it's an International....fvcking awesome round eye Dodge. I dig it.

GOOD LUCK!

Reading up on the 360, it got a makeover, if you will, in the 90's where it got more power, better seals, and renamed the 5.9 Magnum. Those are apparently easier to find than the old 360. And some of the parts interchange. Thinking back, I think Dodge got the NP435 or 465, whichever it is, but it's a good transmission.

Thanks Dingo, so the trans is the same as a GM? The NP 465??

If it hasnt rusted apart yet then go for it. 360s are plenty reliable and have tons of aftermarket support if you want some more umph out of it. Not sure on dodge manuals. Rear axle should be a dana 70 which is stout. I like old dodges and actually bought an old municipality welding rig. Its a 1990 W250 with a flat bed. Gonna use it as a water truck on my property.

That PTO is a nice feature to have.

Appreciate it Chris. Kinda what i was wondering. Can't imagine the trans ain't good, sure Dodge didn't build it, lol. Looks pretty straight in the pictures, things arn't bad to rust up here so.... Just talked to the feller, needs some brake work, but says it runs and drives fine. Going to look at it next week when the weather clears.
Thanks again.

In my shop manuals they show the Synchromesh (SM), and the New Process (NP). I personally have never seen an NP in a Chevy, and my research on them showed they went primarily into Dodge and Ford. I've driven a 1990 Dodge with one, and it was just like shifting an SM420 or SM465.

My very first vehicle was a 1979 Dodge work van that I bought from my brother for $200. It had a 360. I gave it a tune-up and drove that thing for years, beating the hell out of it like you would expect a high school kid in the desert to do. Floored everywhere I went and drifting around every dirt road corner I could find. It had good power and never let me down.

Im sorry, Had the wrong letters for a GM. Never knew they were anything but a "granny low 4 speed" till I joined this forum! Glad I'm here and learning!!
Sure it's the same trans this 82 has? I know nothing Dodge, but back in the day they didn't change much, looking at them.
Thanks!!

It's got a Carter AFB on it, right? really thinking the brake light switch likes to catch fire or something ... i'd have to look up about that - if I were you - cuz i'd want to change that too. Whatever it was, like that, that CATCHES FIRE> there IS a fire starter in that truck, pretty sure.
