IMO a nv3500 out of a early 90s chevy would be a lot easier swap

If the T5 came from a Camaro or Firebird, it should basically bolt in. But it will not be very strong.

The truck 4 speed... 1st gear is a granny gear I assume? It's very strong but if you want sporty type shifting, you won't be happy with it. It has dump truck-ish shift characteristics.

a t5 is not strong enough for a truck

sorry to say but you are wasting your time t5 transmissions are barely strong enough for a car even the world class t5 will not hold up to a truck

Can you tell me more? What's different about the Astro bellhousing? That has to be a rare piece.

with the astro bell housing. it has a sbc bolt pattern, the hydraulic setup and you dond need to cut anything with you input shaft(no shims needed either.) or the throw out bearing retainer. makes it a bolt and go kinda deal with out any worry as long as you buy the astro clutch kit to go with it.

this is gonna go into a truck that weighs about 35-3700lbs. if they came in an astro van with a curb weight around 4300lbs, I should be safe, right? I mean...the obvious difference would be a v8 vs a v6. but I wont be pounding on it. it wont be a drag truck. no 3k rpm dumps or speed shifting. the only real reason I feel comfortable with it is because me uncle is still using a stock t5 in his mustang that runs 7.30's with a 125 shot. been using it for 10 years. maybe a stroke of luck, but it works.
