I have been on the hunt for a 700r4 trans for some time now. Last week a lady I work with and pretty good friends with, her husband who owns a shop called and said he had a birthday gift for me, and to come to his shop to pick it up on Saturday. To my suprise when I got there he had a 700r4 transmission and a used Holley carb sitting there waiting for me! Both need to be rebuilt, but for free ninty nine I'll take it! So I've been trying to figure out what year this trans is...I felt it would have been in bad taste to say "I sure hope this is the model year I've been looking for" I've for a ID number on the pass. side by the pan, where every web site says it's listed....but I didn't see one. There is a number on the drivers side 8676358. Does anyone have any idea what year or model this trans could be? hoppoing to start buying rebuild part for it soon

O yea, I am wanting to put this in a 76 w/ a mild 350.

thanks for the help!!

BTW, driver side #? Not sure what the is, but normally, passenger side is where the ID #'s are. I wonder if you're not seeing a case part # or something.

That may just be a part # or cast #, but its not much good for ID. You need the # off the passenger side as shown in the 700r4 ID thread. I can tell alot about a 700r4 just by a pic of the passenger side of the case. All of it, not just the #. There are pressure taps and flash markings to look for, big letter on the bell housing that tell certain things even if you don't have a # that is legible. And they are out there where the #'s were not stamped very deep and no ID #'s, or warranty replacement with no #'s at all on it.
