Was the starter and solenoid separate on these starters? All the replacement ones look like they are together.. but the solenoid is on my fender in my truck. I just bought this as a parts truck.. 83 c10 with the 6.2
And also there is a wire coming off the hot side of the passenger side battery and I am not sure what it went to.

That solenoid is for the glow plugs. That positive cable looks like a generic aftermarket cable and they usually have that extra wire.

Makes a lot more sense! Not used to this extra diesel stuff haha. After I saw this i took a quick look at the starter(from above) and didnt see the solenoid and was very confused. Found it earlier. Also the starter has got a nice 2in crack down it so that would explain why the starter motor wasnt doing anything.

Better the starter than the block I suppose. If the brace is gone, go buy one pronto.

Has anyone ever found the heat shield that is supposed to be installed to protect the solenoid on top of the starter from the engine?
