Check your battery cables. Old ****** cables will bog a starter big time.

BTW, it's not a carburetor. Pumping the throttle doesn't do you any good.

Go part throttle in cooler weather or full throttle in cold and hold until it starts.

That's good to know. I did wonder if pumping it did anything, but hadn't looked into it yet. So thank you for that. When it started today, I was holding it steady, maybe 1/3 to half throttle, but I have been usually pumping it.

I had lots of trouble with my 6.2 when I first got it, here is lots of info what I did to make it a daily if you want to go through it.

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

If it gets cold where you are, the diesels had a pickup sock with a relief valve for when the fuel gels up. You're going to want that. I don't know the part number offhand, but I'll see if I have one at the shop so I can get a picture for you.

Thanks, Craig! I'll definitely go through that thread. (Edit: Turns out I'd already started through that thread. I need to finish going through it.). I need to learn about these 6.2's, because I plan on keeping it around. Mine's a pretty solid rig.

My step Grandpa bought it new. After he passed away, it went to a step brother, my Dad, then me, then my cousin, and back to me. 41 years old and only has 180k. Only 30k in the last 15 years.
