Good Saturday to all. I have a good 4l60e transmission in a 2003 K1500 suburban and wasn't sure if it would work electronically with the 1996-99 or (97 more specifically) K1500 suburban. I did some searching and it seems like it might but I didn't get anything concrete.

I cannot answer you,I can however tell what to check. Get wiring scematics for both vehicles see if they have the same electrical pinout for the transmission. Look up donor vehicle and recipient vehicle and see if they are both pulse width modulated early wasn't. But I don't know when they changed. As a matter of fact instead of reading my confusing mess tag Nick @NickTransmissions

Those two transmissions are not physically interchangeable without adaptors for each respective engine application.

Why not rebuild your 1997 K1500's 4L60E?

I thought they physically swapped except you had to leave out 1 bolt and possibly a pilot bushing depending on which crank is in the 5.3.

That applies to the 4L80Es, not the 4L60Es.

The 4L60Es meant for Gen3 small blocks use a 300mm input shaft (no pilot journal), 7-1/4 inch stator tube, different bell housing (deeper than Gen 1 SBCs), torque converter and flex plate while the 4L60Es meant for Gen1/2 small blocks use a 298mm input shaft, pilot journal, 6-3/4 stator shaft, different bell housing (shallower than Gen3 bell housings), torque converter and flex plate.

Adaptors are the most straight forward way to fit a Gen1 4L60E behind a Gen3 and Gen3 4L60E behind a Gen1 SBC/BBC or the compatible service packs must be swapped between the two units (with that much effort being made, it doesn't make any sense not to simply rebuild the transmission that went bad to begin with).

Thank you for the replys! I think I'll sell it as a good used transmission for the correct application.
