Hi,

Looks like ive blown a freeze (well better to say 'core' plug) on the passenger side of the block, at the front close to the motor mount.

It will be getting reaplaced later this week, but my question is, does anyone have hints/tips for replacing this particular freeze plug?

From what ive managed to find so far on the internet, access is, ahem, tricky.

Thanks all for any insights.

You MAY need to lift the engine (un-bolt mounts first), remove the starter for clearance to swing a hammer and drive a punch into the plug then pry it out.
Have adult beverages on stand-by.

A soft plug tool install kit might help. Replacement plug needs to be straight or it will leak. I have used various punches, sockets and extensions to do whatever is necessary to get it in. Buy several plugs usually will ruin one or 2. The other alternative is a screw in rubber style as last resort. Not to rain on you're parade, its likely going to be an ongoing problem with that motor until all of them are replaced. Look at the others for weeping and coolant in the rear area below motor.

Access is indeed, ****.

But happpily it is the plug thats leaking, and not the head gaskets or the block :)

I like the technique employed - use a threaded rod, socket and nuts to press it in instead of trying to pound away with a hammer in there....
