Ok so heres whats up. I got a 1978 k30 dually. its quite the beast. 400 sbc thats rebuilt along with a good turbo 400 trans. Its full time 4x4(with 4 high lock and 4 low lock). i like the truck the way it is, except for the auto, I found a 454 and a 4 speed manual parts truck, a old k20. how much work would it take for to swap it in. I may not even do it, but im just spitballin some ideas.

thank you agian, and hopefully this is a apropriate section to post this in. thank you kindly.

just need to swap over all the stick shift parts, hard part is the frame bracket for the bell crank, it's riveted to the frame but in a bad spot.

swap pedals over, then drivetrains or just the 4 speed. then you'd need a flywheel for the 400 if you use it, and not the big block, then maybe have to move modify or change the trans crossmember. not sure.

biggest thing is you get the complete donor truck to swipe whatever you need then get rid of it. That way f you do need things like driveshafts, brackets or something small you may miss it's there and you'll have it.

I have a 78 k30 454 4speed. the truck originally had a sb 400, turbo 400. what year is the donor. mine was a 80 so everything bolted right in. I didn't know they put full time in the 1 tons? I thought the 400 trans never had the 203 mated to it. highdesertranger

I believe the truck was military at one time, and a different motor was put in. But the glovebox says 400ci
And it also says conventional 2ton but that's beside the point. But the donor is a 78 also

well it sounds like someone changed your glove box door. however a don't think a 400cid was ever put into a 2ton. anyhow none of that really matters. everything for the 4spd will change right over. your z-bar linkage might be riveted to the frame. just remove the rivets and bolt it to the other frame my 78 frame already had the holes for the bracket. highdesertranger
