1990 speedometer

Where can I get a new electric speedometer for my 1990 suburban?

I'll be watching this, I am interested as well. What happened to yours? How did you diagnose it was the speedometer?

Hmm, mine is the opposite. The odo always works but the speedo is intermittent. Is the '90-'91 speedo a common failure?

I'd say the motor is bad for the odo.

Andy - maybe the VSS or speedo motor.

Not sure where to find one outside of a junkyard. They go for a lot on ebay.

If the VSS was bad, what would be telling the odo to turn? It tends to not work when you start driving the truck after sitting for a bit, after 10-20 minutes it just starts working. It would rarely quit working while driving.

Does your cruise control work? if so, it is the speedo motor. If not,it is vss which is the greenboard. Mine quit because the numbers locked up. after freeing them 3 times, the motor quit. A speedo from a chevy van , 92 93 should work also. Check the back to insure it has the same 3 prong greenboard sticking out the side.

How do you know your odometer is not intermittent? If so, check the plug at the trans tailshaft.

I've only used the cruise control once, and it was just to see if it worked. It did, but I don't remember if the speedo happened to be working at the same time.

The odo logs miles on it whenever the speedo is inop.

Speedometers out of a 91 or 92 Chevy vans will work. Ensure that they have the 3 prong plug sticking out the left side when viewed from the back. You will need to change the face plates. Bought one on Ebay for $35 shipped.
