I've just finished putting a rebuild NV3500 transmission in my 1990 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban and I'm experiencing a bit of a vibration in a few instances.
1.) Above 60 MPH there is a bit of a vibration in the seat and rear floor. I'd almost describe it as a rumble. Think this could be u-joints or something in the rear axle?
2.) At some RPM (unsure due to no tach) it seems to vibrate in the floor. Almost similar to what I feel when going at higher speeds, but it's somewhat violent. I know the 6.2 diesel has some vibrations, but I'm not sure if this is just a characteristic of this particular one I have or some indication of a problem. If you apply throttle at this RPM, it stops. This vibration is completely speed independent, you just need to be at whatever this RPM is. It seems to be around 45mph when in 5th and really is only noticable when downshifting and slowing down at lower speeds. Think this could be u-joints or the rear axle as well?
A few things to note, I did check out the Ujoints and they appeared to be OK. That being said, they are likely very old so perhaps replacing them may fix it? Additionally it has 4 new tires on it that I had rebalanced and aligned, which helped a bit with highway vibration, but the rumble like vibration is still present.
Anyone else have experience with this and where I might want to check other than what I mentioned? I think I'll replace the u-joints just to see unless someone thinks it may be in the rear axle?
Thanks!
