Started replacing the vacuum hoses. Yes, keeping the emissions equipment as everything is there and might as well.

Front brakes are done except the rubber hoses were too short, there apparently are two lengths, and we need the long ones. Got those ordered.

Also ordered a new fuel pump, turns out one can still get the oe style pump. Will be doing some figuring to adapt the new sender (provided it will work with the gauge) to the old setup.

I have suspicions that the truck might have had fueling problems before it got parked. About 1/2” of sediment on the bottom of the tank. Was almost like a dried gas, clay, and rust mix. I wouldn’t expect that to have happened just by sitting, maybe it did.

I had told dad I wanted to drop the tank to check it out and inspect it. Would have been just trouble trying to run it. And of course the complications of drawing through a dead pump, etc.

Got the new longer, correct brake hoses, got those installed and first round of bleeding done. Will get it to the point of driving around the lot and re bleed, more to flush any old fluid out that may be still hanging around in the lines.

Front shocks removed and replaced.

The new fuel pump arrived. Looks like it's a match. I will need to source some 30r10 submersible hose to make the connection from the pump to pickup tube. Parts will be taking a trip through the blast cabinet to get cleaned up.

Got the rear shocks removed. Somewhat unusual for me, took about 5 minutes to get both off. Normally some curveball or fight ensues.

Sunday we got up to the shop and dad almost immediately knocked over a pan of gas on the floor.

I focused on getting the fuel sender sorted out.

I decided to combine the bracket of the original sender and the new 1979+ sender body.

Some cutting and grinding I had both pieces prepped to be spot welded.

Used the original arm as a reference and rebent the new arm to match.

I did break it on accident and gas welded it back together.

Also blasted the sender/pump mount and installed the new pump, with the correct 30R10 submersible hose.

Did the front seal. Sleeve on the balancer. Used the method of bumping the starter with a socket on the crank to break the bolt loose. I was able unexpectedly to remove the balancer without a puller, in doing so slammed my thumbs into the fan shroud edge. Ouchie.

And resoldered at home the nichrome wire on the sender to ring terminal. It should be ready to go on the pump sender mount and be ready to go back into the tank.

I didn't (had to watch myself as he drove us up to the shop ), but I did tell him that if he does it again I'm going to have to think it was intentional lol.

Had the day off of work, so I was able to get the front belt drive back together, finish up a few loose ends and drove it around the lot a little, then decided to take it on the road and see what happens. Did about 10 miles and no issues. Other than the crap bulging trailer tires and the pitman arm is loose (have one on order).

The universal/temporary fuel system worked pretty good. I realize the shirt stuffed in the can is basically a 5 gallon Molotov

Sprayed some stainless-blast on the headlight buckets and filler neck.

Oh my dad has given me absolute hell for plenty of things all my life, you bet your ass he gets it back just as bad nowadays
