So my uncle has given me my grandfathers 1976 Scottsdale step side 4x4. I have never been much of a mechanic, so I am going to need alot of help so i typed in square body and this site came up. I have been reading some post and I may be in over my head, but I was wanting something to do with my 10 year old son. I go to pick up the truck this weekend. It was parked roughly 12 years ago and was running when it was parked. Hopefully, It would be much to get it running. However, I have 6 years to get this thing off the ground and running before I have to worry about my son wanting to drive it to and form school. Thanks ahead of time for all you help.

My name also comes from my MOS in the military.

Thanks
19k

I found a little more info on the truck I am picking up soon.

It is a 1976 Stepside 4X4 with a automatic tranny. It has a 350 V8 in it also. I am just curious, it this a good combo to stick with? Or would it be better down the road to switch to manual 4X4 and tranny?

Also it was the maroon color with the wide white stripe.

This is going to be a fun project with my 10 year old.

Depends what transmission it is its most likely a turbo 350 or it could be a turbo 400, they are good transmissions especially the 400 if you're good about maintenance it will last you a long time. You also wanna think about transfer cases 76 has a good chance of being full time four wheel drive, you can put a kit in your transger case and put manual hubs on your axles or find a later vehicle or a different transfer case along with the hubs

Howdy!

If you like the auto, then just stick with that... nice and simple.
