Wow, so I finally got around to working on the red rocket the last couple days. Pulled the intake off and low and behold I saw a sight just like the picture squareroot posted.... Shitty Edelbrock Gaskets delaminated and went to shit.... cleaned everything up, reassembled with fel-pro gaskets...- Handy Andy

I haven't hooked up a vacuum gauge yet. Even with the pcv valve unhooked from the carb, there is still a great deal of vacuum at the breather port on the passengers side valve cover. Yup aluminum heads. The front 2 cylinders on each side seem to foul up the fastest, but today I changed all the plugs and they were all very bad. I'd say the front 4 foul 2x as fast as the back 4. I've unhooked the pcv hose from the carb and blocked the vac port on the carb. Gonna drive it...- Handy Andy

Ok guys, this one has me looking for some answers and ideas. To start off, I'll just say the motor is a carbed 350, dart heads, edelbrock intake manifold and new edelbrock 1906 carb. Nothing real crazy, just something thats fun to drive and it gets used for work around the property as well...- Handy Andy

GPS Speedometer
I know this post is old, but I have the intellitronix GPS signal generator for my intellitronix speedo. It works fine, but it lags. This isn't a big deal for now, but I'm hoping to install a rostra cruise control kit when I have time and I just wonder how well it will work with a speedo signal...- Handy Andy

yea I was just kinda hoping to avoid the $12-1300 price tag that comes along with those lol. My truck isn't a show truck, so I don't nee gauges that look real pretty. Wiper Issue
Yep it does have intermittent wipers. I replaced the "stalk" before I ever did any kind of looking into the issue. 400 SBC vs 454 BBC
how bout a 377 stroker? 400 block with a 350 crank... if your gonna be doing lots of mudding, and with the gears you plan on running, a 377 stroker built to handle high rpms sounds like a decent option. Strong gas odor
no fuel on the ground? I've actually had both of my tanks fail in the last year.... replaced the drivers side when it started pouring gas on the ground, and now 10 months later the passenger side is dumping fuel out. gotta find time to get it swapped out now.- Handy Andy

Backfire through carburetor
One other thing to check that I haven't seen mentioned yet is make sure your 5 and 7 cylinder plug wires are spaced out properly. While a q-jet does like a lower fuel pressure, if that was what was causing your problems I don't think you would have to turn out your mix screws 8 turns. Cam decision
what cam is in it? If you want great low and mid torque then I would recommend a comp cams 12-235-2. I had one of these in my 400 before I blew it up and it was great for low end torque. You won't get any of that lopey sound with it, but it is a great cam and with my dart SHP heads, flowtech...- Handy Andy

Truck runs rough, help!
so when it is sitting there just turning over and not starting, does it do anything at all besides just crank over?? like any popping spitting sputtering etc? u sure your t-stat is good? throw it in a kettle of water and put it on the stove with a thermometer in the water and make sure it opens up at the proper temp... Another thing to look at would be the factory sensor... may be bad? Running without a T-stat will make your engine run hot...- Handy Andy

WHATEVER YOU DO, if you can find a way to mount the fan in the factory shroud from your truck, do it. My build is nothing special. 350 with dart heads and a CR around 9.3:1. less than 1000 miles on a slightly built 400... Dart SHP heads, almost 10:1 compression ratio... It makes a little power... the program that comp cams has says I should be making 425 hp and 525 tq. I brought it in to them because I thought maybe the lock up solenoid went out... I had them build the transmission for me about 6 or 8 months ago so it is under warranty. This is why I didn't just replace the solenoid myself... Well imagine my surprise when they tell me it wasn't working...- Handy Andy

I don't think thats the issue, but I will definitely check it... All they did was apparently check the wiring... but thats what doesn't make sense to me... They told me the TCC Solenoid power wire was wired wrong.... but it used to work....my truck used to go into lockup... If it was wired...- Handy Andy
