    1973 Tailgate Trim Band Replacement

Correct, the Blazer (with fiberglass top) bands are all the large size and they are also different from pickups. Blazers (again, the ones with fiberglass tops) have a flat tailgate without the concave area that pickups have. Also, there is no exterior tailgate handle. Blazers without the...

Clamping brake lines to axle tubes?

Yep, similar to using zip ties as plug wire separators.

What have you done to your square lately??

Yep. I just ran all of power tour again in my wagon. 350/350 and iirc, 3.08 gear. On the highway, I definitely was not holding anyone up lol. That was with the wife, our 2-year old and our 3-month old twins. And all the luggage associated with picknicing and traveling with three little ones...

Do you have the short or the tall version of the radiator? The tall one is roughly the same height as the core support, while the short version is several inches shorter than the core support.

I didn't realize y'all sold glass too. I need to remember to get some damn catalogs, lol. @Midnightmoon what do you mean by "wasn't fully installed"?

Today was a bit of a fiasco. We were making good time at the start of the day, but that all went downhill as there was a fuel filter/mechanical fuel pump/used electric pump/new electric pump series of events that came about. But we did make it to the venue early enough in the evening to get our...

dose anyone have any good pictures of a 3inch body lift

Yeah, I remember seeing some budget rigs with stacked frames. And also folks that made their own "lift blocks" by torch cutting a bunch of leaf springs and stacking them all up. I specifically remember a Suburban with lift springs and also about 6 inches of leaf sections, on all four corners...

Yep. I can only remember replacing just one. It was a brown '80-ish Malibu.

I had one with a 3" body lift. Installed by a PO, not me. It looked like ass.

The brand new AC belt snapped on the way to the hotel this evening. It's not too awful surprising, it was a really cheap belt. I'll have to find a quality belt along the way somewhere.

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

I agree, if only changing the rail, it will be straight enough. But if replacing all the rivets on the other rail too, it will need to be checked for square during assembly. Straightening these frames is actually a bit difficult. They have a lot of rebound in them, it can take a lot of pulling.

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

The reason I mentioned drilling to 7/16" is for frame rigidity. Putting the frame together square, it's possible that the original rivet holes may not line up perfectly. So drilling to 7/16 will make them line up. In short, drill only as a connection is being made, rather than drilling all holes...

That's a benefit of some blingin' 24's I guess. It would certainly fix that situation, lol.

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

Yes, you can replace just the one rail. Time and money wise, it makes no sense, but for sentimental reasons, it kinda sorta makes sense. If you are replacing ALL the rivets with bolts, make sure the frame stays square as you bolt it all together. I'd start at the front. Drill out all the holes...

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

If you call any frame shop, they will either say to replace the whole frame, or say "get lost bud, we don't want to deal with your rusty truck." Besides, there's people here that have done frame work and worked in frame shops. There's no need to call random businesses and bother them.

    Old77’s GMT400 SWB 4x4 5-speed project/DD

I've used many Dewalt bits that have been purchased for use in the shop. They definitely do not like any kind of speed or heat. The dingbats we hire can ruin them in very short order.

This old system doesn't use any pressure switches, it's all controlled with the expansion valve and POA valve working in tandem. The compressor will run even with no freon. I've got the temp gauge in the dash though. I ran two hours yesterday with it blowing 35-37° at 75mph down the interstate...

It looks to me like they are not working loose. It looks to me like they missed the center pin altogether during the install on both sides. If you notice, both are the same and the u-bolts appear to be snug. It needs taken apart to see what's wrong. It looks scary though. Also, I sense another...

If there's a trick to getting one that stubborn to accept grease, I don't know it. Maybe spray a bunch of penetrating oil under the boot and drive it for a few days. There's several folks here that might have a good idea.

Looks like the original tan finish there for sure. I'd really like to know how GM applied the original finish. I don't believe it was gel coat.

OD or not, I still cruise with everyone else in the fast lane. Sure, the fuel cost is more than other options, but you don't have to go slow. I thought the fuel cost chart was very interesting too. I'm still gonna b!tch about the cost of fuel though, lol.

The original finish would have been a low gloss with a "course, yet sparse" finish. Here's a close-up example in black: Is yours a smooth finish?

I've been doing a few things in preparation for Power Tour again. Just piddly stuff. I wired in a power inverter, complete with a breaker at the battery. I also installed a stereo, AKA Bluetooth speaker, lol. Other than the hookups at the battery, the wiring just blends in underhood. I...
