    Wiring Harness? Choosing one?

FWIW, I was able to find all the factory fuse block housings and terminals. They are still available out there. Crimping the terminals is the hardest part and really sucks without the correct crimpers. They are old Delphi terminals. The wiring schematic in the back of a chiltons or haynes book...

Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

I would normally recommend Powermaster, however, the last one I bought already had an audible bearing noise at idle, and still does. But it works. I have also bought some new parts from that TYC brand on Partsgeek and RockAuto and I have always been impressed with the quality. Definitely not the...

    OBS Throttle Position Sensor

Not a squarebody question, but I figured there has got to be others here with 88-98 trucks as well. I bought a Delphi TPS sensor the other day and holy crap, it was cheap plastic BS. The keyed portion that connects to the throttle blade shaft was crooked and halfway popped out of the housing...

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

To be honest, everything feels really tight on the column, almost too tight. The column is one of those things that I've never really been into past swapping a steering wheel. I'd rather find a decent used one and learn to rebuild it on the bench, then just swap it in.

    CARBURETOR DATED

I was having this same issue over the HOT summer, initially thought it was because I swapped in a metal cased Wix fuel filter. Ended up being the ignition module crapping out a few times before finally failing for good. Next time the issue is happening, check to see if you have spark from the...

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

Well, I was able to make it worse, now it won't crank if the column is in either of the two highest settings. I didn't have the will to take it loose and start messing with adjusting it, sounds more like a weekend thing. In a perfect world I would rip the column out and rebuild it. It needs...

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

There's no telling, all I remember is having to drop the column, adjust it, bolt the column back up, try to start it, drop the column, adjust it, bolt the column back up, try to start it, drop the column........ I don't think I had to flip the harness, but man that was a long time ago, at least...

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

I put an ignition switch on my truck years and years ago. Since then, it has always been tricky to get the switch to engage while the tilt is up in the highest setting. So the other day I'm thinking....."maybe i should just replace the switch, or at least adjust it"....then I started looking at...

Drop In Voltage from Windows and AC on

If it were me, I would be running the power windows through some relays. They would probably work much better, and put less strain on the electrical system in the long run. Sounds like worn out motors/ tracks/regulators are stacking up and pulling a lot of current when you try to operate them. A...

    Mystery Tachometer

I remember from years ago there was an outfit that was reproducing these in small quantities, but they wanted way too much for them. Something crazy like $300, and not sure if it had the gas gauge built into it like this.

    '84 K20 Suburban re-wire

Interior will be the biggest task. I recently found all the terminals that were used in the fuse block online, they are made by Delphi, and it helps to have the correct crimper to make them nice. Or are you planning on gutting it and buying a new fuse block and everything?

    Th400 kickdown switch

I believe that factory TH400 cars and trucks did have an specific bracket that had provisions for the kickdown switch. I've looked into this because I also need to install the switch, but it's been awhile since I Googled it. You could try to research it, I'm fairly sure this was the case. But...

    454 ACDelco water pump

I would swap it just to get rid of that rust. Just try to find a new pump vs. a remanufactured. I'm not certain on big blocks, there may have been a longer version and a shorter version (definitely the case on SBC) If it turns the same rotation as the crankshaft then its standard rotation.

    Potential wiring problem

I completely agree on wanting to know the actual engine temp. But I am not aware (someone correct me if I am wrong) of an ignition cutoff based on engine temp in these trucks. Oil pressure cutoff is a thing, but as far as I know, you could theoretically overheat your engine until it got so hot...

    Potential wiring problem

FWIW, I just rewired my entire engine harness (which includes the temp sender wire - Dark Green, and usually there is two that are wired in parallel) and swapped my sending unit out and my temp gauge does the exact same thing. It's a cheap electrical gauge from the 80s, I wouldn't trust it even...
