What have you done to your square lately??

Well, yesterday me and the girl got a new car that's suitable for a baby since she's pregnant, a 2010 HHR, nice car, good mileage, no balls, she loves it, so I'm happy. Today I removed the whole front clip, dash pad, and pulled out the motor and tranny so I can tear it down and see what happened...

What have you done to your square lately??

Try telling that to the people who bring in batteries insisting it's the only possible problem, they usually state that there car is a "make" and is only "x" years old (usually 5 or more) and has never had any starter or alternator or even wiring issues and because it's a "make" everything is...

What have you done to your square lately??

We do a trickle charge and load test our batteries. We have a midtronics handheld tester and a midtronics load tester/charger that we use. Problem is people want there issue to be the battery because a battery under warranty is cheaper and easier to replace than a starter or alternator or even...

What have you done to your square lately??

Honestly the most common issue we have with everstart batteries isn't the batteries themselves. I agree that they aren't great batteries, but typically people bring them in, they test good on all testing systems and don't present any issues whatsoever and we warranty them anyway when the...

What have you done to your square lately??

ok, so I'll need to grab an 87 tank or inline fuel pump. And 350 injectors and ECU. My dad looked at it and said it was a lot worse than even I had thought, I figured I lost compression in 1 or more cylinders as it sounded like a couple cylinders were pushing air and not firing, but he said it's...

What have you done to your square lately??

I killed mine today :( Cruising on the highway doing 55mph sounded good, but coming off the highway it started making a rapid ticking on decel, oil pressure dropped to 0psi when speed dropped below 45mph and then started sounding horrible, like dead cylinders...now I have to borrow my in laws...

What are you using for a fuel pump? Looks like an in-tank unit but for what vehicle?

What have you done to your square lately??

I replaced the upper radiator hose, thermostat (195*), and thermostat housing because the housing was leaking, the hose was swollen and I suspected the thermostat was the reason my temp never gets above 160* unless I'm out of coolant. Well, it still leaks, and the new 195* tstat didn't change...

What have you done to your square lately??

I see my taste is similar to a few peoples. It's a stock wheel from the late 80s early 90s cavalier z24s, I believe 1991 was when they changed the horn button to a rectangle. I just picked one up at the wrecking yard a week or so ago.

What have you done to your square lately??

It happens, I looked through tons of images to figure it out, just thought people should know which vehicles have which wheels so they don't look at the wrong vehicles and waste time. The wheel is much nicer than my original btw, turns a little harder but I don't hit anything if I turn the...

What have you done to your square lately??

No, the lumina wheels are considerably different, the cavalier Z24 wheel is identical, the same wheel was used with a rectangle horn button as well. In order. 1991-1994 lumina, 1991-1994 lumina again, 1994 cavalier z24, 1989 cavalier z24, my wheel.

What have you done to your square lately??

I looked up the lumina wheels and though they are similar they are definitely not the same, as it turns out a quick search through similar cars (beretta and cavalier) came up with this wheel, seems to be from an 1989 cavalier z24, I guess the guy who had that burb liked it too and swapped it on...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thank you, $10 at the wrench a part in del valle, there were some other grant wheels there but I liked this one. It was installed on a late 80's or early 90's chevy suburban "starcraft high luxe"(I think that's what it's called). It had the install it with it luckily, so Install was pretty easy.

What have you done to your square lately??

Put new window glass in the passenger door (coworker shut door too hard and glass shattered), put blower motor in, and installed different steering wheel (aftermarket type, has bow tie horn button though), all parts from the junkyard. The window wasn't as hard as we expected, the vent window was...

starter and oil pressure issue :(

Starter issue was resolved with new starter. Oil pressure issue isn't as bad since I bumped my timing to 12* and messed with the carb (idle in park ~800. drive ~650) against my dad's instructions to leave timing and carb alone. seems to run quite a bit better, not like it used to 6 months...

Diagnose Engine Problems w Vac Guage

Quick question. I just checked my truck with a vacuum gauge (used manifold vacuum from t behind carb...line original going to hvac canister i think). and it read a kinda steady 13-14", looked at the vacuum tuning pics and it seems to be like timing is retarded or my cam is bigger than I thought...

starter and oil pressure issue :(

Update: Got a new starter, installed it (thing weighs a ton when you're holding it up for awhile), and now it whines while cranking...so I had to go back and get shims because apparently they aren't included with a new starter. Starts everytime so far. I'm gonna advance the timing to 12* and...

Hotrod, you may be right. It's running better now and only has trouble for the first minute when I start it cold.

starter and oil pressure issue :(

And it gets better with a cold snap. :( Well, this morning it ran very well, but around lunch time it started running terribly and I mean really bad. It wouldn't idle, it sounded pathetic and I was told by a coworker it was pushing black smoke out of the tailpipe, however that coworker is known...

starter and oil pressure issue :(

Well, I'm buying a new starter it looks like. The heat shield seemed to solve the issue of not a sound, but now it growls until I let off the key and turn it again and it then starts fine. However, at the gas station today it behaved as it did when the starter got hot, but with the wrap on it it...

starter and oil pressure issue :(

I bought a heatshield for it as it is missing and this seems to be a common issue, my dad refers to it as heat soak, said put a heat shield on it and it should stop giving me issues. I will check all the above anyway just to be certain. Thank you for the info.

starter and oil pressure issue :(

Well, my starter issue has struck again. It's 65° out and I stopped at a gas station to grab a drink and when I went to start my truck not even a click. Radio, lights everythong else works great, although I did notice the temp gauge went from normal to hot when I tried to start it. It was normal...

    Heat/AC Distribution Troubleshooting/Vacuum Control

Figured my issue out, the connector at the blower motor for the purple wire (right where it plugs into the motor in the engine bay had broken off and only appeared to be hooked up, pushed it in further and the motor kicked on. Now, my question is can I repair that or do I need a new motor?
