fast idle/curb idle on Rochester 2GV

great. be sure your vacuum advance is disconnected when you are setting timing. (not to be condescending...happens all the time).

fast idle/curb idle on Rochester 2GV

Finding the sweet spot to me would be to check and set timing, then set your hot idle and adjust idle mixture (and reset idle to your target in the process), then set high idle with choke engaged. You’d want you use your vacuum gauge for setting mixture. Better men than me can tell you best...

fast idle/curb idle on Rochester 2GV

I don’t know your setup. For instance, in the mid 80s, A stock automatic c10 V8 would idle somewhere around 550-600 rpm in drive. You are reporting 850 warm, which sounds high for a stock motor (a cammed motor needs more idle). Some GM engines were set up so that the solenoid is actually the...

fast idle/curb idle on Rochester 2GV

Is it possible that your choke is working fine but you have a hefty vacuum leak? Like are all vacuum ports plugged? That’s one thing to check when the idle screw can’t get your idle down far enough. Edit: just realized what I’m looking at: the fast idle (or smog/anti diesel) solenoid is...

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

Yeah I see it. The OPs just looks less built up. I see the cone shaped difference now.

Chevy 14 bolt - gov bomb locker???

1981 g80 gov loc 14 b ff dually. I serviced the diff last summer and this is what it looked like. Only pics I have. Look similar to op.

    Restoring A/C

Getting A/c to run is a rewarding project. You have a lot of stuff missing. The vacuum lines to the vacuum canister on your passenger side firewall are missing and easy to replace, but you’ll also have to check all your vacuum lines inside the cab. Since you said the heat works well, that...

    Dana 60 axle play

Got it done with a new 9/16-18 nylock nut. I also replaced front and back shocks with some kyb monomax shocks. I think the shocks were factory original. The fronts will compress with gravity. Rears too. Totally ragged out.

    Dana 60 axle play

Yeah. I think I’m lucky. I sheared the threads off the nut. Bolt looks good. I just ran a thread chaser over it. And yes, I’m sure I screwed up on torque spec. 2wd nut is the retainer for the arm. 4wd the bolt cross locks the arm in via a groove in the steering box output shaft. I’ll just lock...

    Dana 60 axle play

Had on my front end checklist to “torque pitman arm.” Torque setting from the interwebs? 180 ftlbs. Sheared off my nut threads. Pitman arm still intact. This is why I can’t have nice things.

    Dana 60 axle play

Got the driver side spring in. Good news! The driver side still sits lower. The Chevy lean continues.

    Dana 60 axle play

On springs: I got one side done over the past weekend, new shackles, bushings, springs and u bolts. I got a kick out of how the side I fixed sat a full 2 inches higher than the side with the old spring still on. I think the springs were a little tired.

    87 dually 1 ton brakes

I bought new from rockauto last year for a 4x4 dually. Shouldn’t be hard to find for a 2wd.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

I had the truck on the rack to get the parking brake set up properly and I went ahead and serviced the diff. Gears look good. Only a little grime in the bottom of the diff and no water. All good. It has been years now, but I’m pretty sure this truck has 3.31 gears. It was snappy before I...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

I got out ye olde flap disk and worked on the windshield channel. Some before and after pics on bot sides here. The passenger side was pitted way worse than driver, but I’m gonna throw some evaporust on the remaining pits and just prime from there. For some reason my phone now takes...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Got in there and did some grinding and cleanup on the rockers from my floor install and inner rocker welding. I had poked thru in a few spots (almost 3 years ago now) and had to clean it up. I also removed the windshield because I didn’t really like the state of the rubber gasket. I wasn’t...

    2 stick transfer case

Love the roofing screws. Minor thread revival here, but I’m bored and up early. I have a K35 1 ton with sm465 and 205 tc. Together they are leaky at the moment so I know I’m gonna be into them at some point over the coming years. Twin stick is a question for me: would you do it again? I...

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

I watched that video over the past few weeks, too. It was a good one. I have tuned an Edelbrock AVS on a 67 impala my son and I fixed up, and it wasn't hard to do. I could access the springs and rods from the top of the carb no problem and the jets are easy to get at too if needed (car has a...

I did not. I don’t think those exist on my carb.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Good news (as I have been posting in my holly/QF question thread)... Nemo's motor is back up and running. Ended up with a long saga on the carb that went from rebuild to a recurrent leaky secondary needle / seat. Luckily this was all rooted in that (it fouled plugs, I mistook that for a base...

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

Maybe just a watch out on your carb: One thing my rebuild saga brought me to was the weird quality control inconsistencies in QF carbs. I have been posting about this motor in my nemo thread. After recamming the motor, it fouled its plugs after breakin due to running way rich. I had chalked it...

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

I got in the shop and took a little stone bit on a dremel to the inside tunnel where the needle o ring rides. There was some fuel corrosion in there that I guess my rebuild soak either aggravated or simply didn’t dissolve. After that I put a little oil on the o ring and in the tunnel, and...

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

I had not done that, and don't think my hardline fuel line will let me do it (primary bowl outputs to passenger side, and would be on driver side if I spun it to the secondary side).

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

Needles were new in box with a Holley carb kit. I did give the inlets a blow test, but did NOT change the floats. The float appears to be floating fine when engine is off and I put a screwdriver on it to actuate it throught the fuel window hole in the bowl.
