    New Hood and Hinges...Fit Problem

OK...so I put on a high rise hood and at the same time installed new hinges from LMC. No matter how I try to adjust them, the hood sticks up 1/2"+ at the rear. Any ideas, tricks, or experience in adjusting would be helpful

    Timing Help on 1987 R10

1987 R10 2wd, 350, 700R4. Where is the wire that you have to disconnect to set timing? I know there has to be one...:Insane:

How much MPG does your 454 get, and TBI conversion?

I primarily made the change to the MSD for the tuneability and to control ignition. Yes, it was an expensive exercise for 1mpg. Like they said in the song, or maybe it was just the album cover..." you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish...or the old GM ECM.

How much MPG does your 454 get, and TBI conversion?

1973 3/4 ton 2wd 454 w/ TH400 and 3.73 gears, RV cam and long tube headers. Most of my driving is at high altitude (5000+ feet. You should see the runway I need) and a lot of highway. My brick got 8+ mpg with a well tuned Q-jet. I put a 2 inch GM TBI on and right away went to 10 mpg. I now...

1996 454 tbi in 87 GMC. Easy swap??

I didn't say you could....watching for the black helicopters....It all depends on how strict your state rules and regs are. Out here in the wild west where the sniffers haven't yet gone, it's a little looser but removal is a federal no no, so you're on your own there. Realistically, a...

    TBI issue

A safer way to test the injector is to use a 9 volt battery, hook up positive to positive on the injector and momentarily touch the ground to ground. do not leave connected because you could toast an injector coil. You should hear if cycle or click. I would also put a fuel pressure gauge in...

1996 454 tbi in 87 GMC. Easy swap??

Mechanically, not a hard swap. I believe the '96 454 used a high pressure throttle body so you would need the high pressure fuel pump or low pressure injectors from an earlier 454 and change the internal pressure regulator. We've done several "street rod....no emissions" conversions, putting...

What have you done to your square lately??

Well, let's see...Basic maintenance included spark plugs and wires, brake pads and rotors, and an oil change. Improvements on the old '73 C20 included putting fuel injection on the 454, an MSD 6A ignition, electric fuel pumps, had the bed and the back of the cab sand blasted, and now the...

    TBI issue

If the injectors are good, you should hear them cycling - a fast ticking sound. Dirt and crud in the fuel line will mess up injectors real fast. Check your wire from the coil to the ECM(similar to tach signal) If the ECM is not getting a signal that you have ignition voltage, the pump will run...

    Throttle Body Fuel Injection Conversion

I have a complete Carb to TBI fuel injection conversion set up for sale. It includes a GM 2" throttle body, manifold adapter plate, an Airaid spacer, labeled wiring harness, 1227747 ECM, all sensors, wide band O2 sensor with welding bung, fuel pump and filter. You will need a return fuel line...

best way to improve fuel economy

Here's what I did. Got an adapter plate, harness and ECM from Howell engineering, a 2" throttle body from a wrecked '92 Suburban with a 454, a wide band O2 sensor and an electric fuel pump, and put fuel injection on my '73 454. Went from 8 to 10MPG and it starts, idles and runs way better. I...

Suburban fuel tank in a Long bed?

Thanks, I just read through it. Seems the biggest dilemma is a good location for the fuel filler. Mine is a real work truck and having the fuel fill in the bed might be a deal breaker. Guess I have to spend some quality time laying under the back of my truck...

Suburban fuel tank in a Long bed?

I read through your build thread and it's very impressive. Were you able to use the Suburban hanger straps? Any tips on mounting the tank? I like the access panel for the sending unit. How did you handle the fill tube? Do you see any possible way of getting back to an existing fuel door...

Suburban fuel tank in a Long bed?

I'm looking at the possibility of putting a 40 gallon fuel tank from a Suburban in my C20 long bed. Spare tire, exhaust, etc. are not going to be a problem because they are relocated. Has anyone done this? Any mounting problems, fuel fill issues?.

    exhaust pipe sizing

1973 454 (049 heads) Mild roller cam, long tube headers with 3" outlets, MSD ignition with 6A box, performer 2.0 intake, and fuel injected. Right now I'm running two 3 inch pipes out with Purple Hornies mufflers. This is just to get me to the muffler shop. The question is...What size pipe...
