    Wing Windows

I bought a set from LMC a few years ago and didn't have the luck others have had. They were around $500 a pair back then. In the California sun the black finish is flaking off. They look worse than the originals. It looks like a poor attempt at powder coating. I still have the factory originals...

2 or 4 inch lift kit

I went with a 3" lift and I'm considering a 1" body lift. I use it for hauling and towing so I didn't want it too high. At 4"+ longer brake lines, shocks and compatible steering arm (to correct the steering geometry) are often needed.

    Finally Found Hickey Grille Guard

This is a tangent, but if anyone has the mechanical specs for the Hickey front truss, that would be appreciated. I could probably design something but starting with an existing design would help.

    Careful buying online- Camaro 1979

Yep sellers lie or bend the truth. When I bought my K10 I noticed it had a sunroof. I specifically asked if there were any leaks and they said no. I bought the truck and during the next storm the inside of the cab was soaked. There's no implied warranty so you're stuck with it. And there are no...

    Latest mystery.........

Where did the 11 ft.lbs torque come from? That seems high. The downside to q-jets is the top which warps if over torqued. Once warped the fuel in the bowl leaks into the primaries. Every q-jet I've rebuilt has had a slight warp. I typically check the top with a straight edge.

    Anti theft devices

On my first SB Scottsdale I had round key hood locks, (rare now) and one was disguised as a kill switch. The switch cut the power to the HEI distributor. Also I installed plates in the doors to make it harder to use a slimjim. However, today thief's are more suffocated and will likely tow the...

    Part identification please

Yep, I had a K30 with the camper special option and it included the anchor plates. What I found interesting are shock absorbers added between the bed and cab. They improved ride on the highway. I miss that truck.

    Emissions Spec Question

This is reason why I have a 1975 K10, no smog inspection. I've kept all the stock parts just in case. The weight class also plays into what equipment is required. I had a 77 K30 10k gvw and it had very few smog parts.

I cant get my new engine to run smooth. Seems untunable.

With vacuum that low, I would 2nd the intake gasket theory - something is misaligned or just the wrong gasket. An issue I've had with the q-jet base gasket is with the plastic inserts. Often they're too thick, disallowing the compression of the gasket and thereby leaking. Typically I sand down...

    A.I.R. KAPUT

It's my understanding that the a.i.r is used to cool the exhaust valves. Higher cylinder head temps reduce emissions, which then impacts the valve temperature. I disabled the a.i.r on my 66 Chevy and didn't have any valve issues. Although other tuning reduced the head temperature.

Get your Hookers while they're available!

Wish I had seen these before I installed headers. They look nice... There was a 3 month lead time to get my hooker headers. At that time there was a steel shortage.

Quadrajet from hell will not give me peace

The only thing I don't like about Q-jets is the air horn [or top] is too thin. They warp easily unless you're very cautious with the bolt torque. If they're warped the fuel bowl will leak into the primaries. I always check mine with a straight edge. If they are warped I've had luck lap filing...

    Quadrajet fast idle issue.

Yep, that's why they were known as quadra-bogs. The secondary air valve is easy to adjust, you just need an allen wrench and a small screwdriver. I have q-jets in 2 of my cars and they run great. The PV's sometimes get stuck. If you have it open, the PV can be polished using scotch-brite and...

    Quadrajet question

A common issue with the q-jet is the power valve doesn't move/transition smoothly in the bore. This valve is located front and center and moves the primary jet rods. With the top and gasket off you can check if it has any stiction by pressing on it. In a Youtube video by Q-Jet power, it was...

    Finally Found Hickey Grille Guard

I like that color combo... Hickey used to be located in Ventura CA. and they had a demo Suburban which was used for R&D and shows. The push bar below is from that Suburban. The owner wanted to sell the whole SUV which had other demo parts but I passed, it's probably still there.

Should I yank my engine to do oil pan gasket?

I R&R'd my oil pan gasket a few weeks ago and 3 of the 4 pegs worked great. The downside to the one-piece is it is 2.5x more expensive, but well worth it if you're working upside down. Hasn't leaked since. The pan was a little close to the crossmember, but it is possible to remove it. Tip: If...

Axle truss's do they serve a purpose or all for show

It's depends on what you're going to use the truck for. If you rarely go off-road there's no need for a truss. Back in the day, the axle tubes on Dana 44s would bend if you had a habit of jumping your truck. Out came the Hickey bar truss which added a little strength but not much. The weld in...

    Backup Light Switch Replacement

Having loose dangling wires would make me nervous. I would suggest securing them with automotive tubing or something similar. GM used to use cloth tape to protect interior wiring. I'm particular when wiring, routing away from sharps or hot surfaces. Fortunately I added an auxiliary flood...

    Backup Light Switch Replacement

Thanks for the input. My wiring is in fairly good condition considering the age, however anything is possible. For the record, I'm very familiar with troubleshooting, I work as an electro-mechanical Engineer and have an aircraft mechanic/technician A&P license. With that said I have worked on...

    Backup Light Switch Replacement

I have a 75 K10 with an SM465. And I need to replace the backup switch which is located near the top of the trans. I attempted to get a few 7/8" tools on it and nothing fit. I can get a 7/8" deep socket on it but not the ratchet. Can anyone suggest a tool of method to remove the switch? I'm...

    Aux Battery Tray

They have a aux tray, but it's for an 81-87. I find it odd that there are aux trays for 65-72 and 81-87, but there are none for 73-81?
