    Dual tank question

Can't agree, as both are prone to failure. Tthe old 3 port is either on or off, simple solenoid coil, it either shunts the valve port for L or R tank pickup. Correct, the gauge is controlled via the selector switch. Possibly the valve becomes unreliable if you only ever keep using the LH tank...

    Importance of charcoal (Evap) canister

Would it be a worthwhile exercise to fit a clear plastic inline filter into the vacucuum hose? At least it would stop the charcoal particles entering the carb and any problems would be visable.

Could be as stated, but let us keep it simple for the moment and try to pin point the exact problem first.

    Fusible links

Is this truck an automatic trans, from where l sit it sounds like a possible issue with the neutral safety switch circuit. If so, at the bottom of the colum inside, there would be a plug with 2 wires, a purple/white (which is power from the key to crank the engine) and a purple wire which then...

    Fusible links

Never mind how they look from the outer, they are designed to fuse inside, and the silicon sheathing doesn't leave melted wires exposed.

    Where does this wire go?

I think the circiut breaker is in the headlight switch, the fusible links are there to protect the cable itself .

    Where does this wire go?

That's correct, the main wire splices off to the ign switch/light switch. It is unfused through the firewall/fuse block. The power TO the block is from the starter motor cable, via a fusible link. Also don't like the way that spade terminal is hanging out of the plug.

Is the fuel tank being pressurised because of a non venting fuel cap?

76 GMC TH400---dipstick boot, or no??

As Matt mentioned, the boot type is much better, I used a Proform item with the locking dipstick, works great. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265770336763?epid=698299636&hash=item3de12581fb:g:~ZwAAOSw0zdixy1D

    TH400 issues

Hey Matt, don't mean to steal another members thread here, however with my TH400, if I put the foot down at around 55-60 mph kicks back to 1st. I end up throwing the belts off the water pump and alternator. Any advice appreciated.

454 woes, off the road for the time being

Well, did a round trip yesterday north of home, about 6 hours of country driving, on the way back the old girl failed. Tried limping home, but it had developed a noise that slowly got worse, oil levels & pressure ok, but had to have her flatbed towed home. Worst part was the tow truck driver...
