Tekonsha Prodigy P3 or P2 brake controler

Hi all Looking to replace my old kelsey - Hayes hydraulic trailer brake controller. Pretty sure I will be going with the Tekonsha Prodigy, but which one. P2 or P3. Not much difference in price. The information says the P2 is easier to install, not sure why, but the controls on the P3 look...

Carrier / center driveshaft bearing removal

Hi all I know this is a fairly simple project, but was still hoping to get some tips on how to get the pressed on carrier bearing off the driveshaft. I would just drive it off from the front side if it wasn't for that cup on the drive shaft in the way. I checked out youtube. Not much there for...

    Axle Identification

Yup HC8 3:21 Just double checked. I don't really like it though. It robs a lot of power from the 454. I think a 3:73 would be a lot better.

    Axle Identification

I think I just found the clue. The Chevy 10 1/2" has a large bolt on pinion seal retainer that goes on after seal # 8 in the 1st pic. Mine has that bolt on flange. The Dana's ( 2nd pic ) are more like the Chevy 8 1/2" and the 9 1/2". Yes no?

    Axle Identification

Hi all I have read other post trying to figure this out and still not sure. It does have ff axles. Code in glove box is HC8 which is just 3:21 gear ratio. This is in a 85 Burb 3/4 ton. I think it is either a Chevy 10 1/2 , 10 1/2 Dana or a 9 1/2 Dana going by a 83 shop manual. I doubt if they...

    Anyone rocking S10's?

They will never bring back the S-10 and even if they did they would screw it up with changes. I just recently purchased a 84 S-10 to replace my 95 Suzuki Carry Kei truck. This was a fantastic little workhorse of a truck. Sold it because insurance was killing me. New truck is a 1984 S-10 4 X 4...

    Replacement Radio

Well got the new USA 230 installed. Went way better than I expected. The wiring harness adapter from Carid made it easy. Special thank to CSFJ for getting me started on research for the harness adapter. Just didn't realize they made such a critter. Fit of the radio was great and looks very...

    Replacement Radio

I didn't realize this may be available. Looked around on ebay but came up with nothing. Anyone know who has wiring harness adapters? Edit: I think I just found one. Is this what I'm looking for to plug into the factory wiring harness so I don't have to cut off the factory plug...

    Replacement Radio

Well it looks like I will be going with the Classic Car Stereo USA-230. Now I have to think about wiring. The new radio will come labeled, but my factory Delco just has i single plug in. Looks like I will need to locate a wiring diagram for my 85 Burb.

    Replacement Radio

Is there any good reasons to stay with an analog radio as opposed to a digital. I mean some times the old school stuff is worth holding on to. BTW a DIN was never a consideration. That's why I was shopping at Classic car for a factory look.

    Replacement Radio

Made in China. Tell me you're not surprised. I just replaced my original water pump and went with a AC Delco ( had to order it ) and was hoping it was made in North America. Canada, Mexico or US. Just give me North America. Nope. My AC Delco was Made in China. It is jetting nearly impossible to...

    Replacement Radio

Hey all Just wondering if anyone has used these folks for replacement radios. https://www.classiccarstereos.com/1973-1988-chevy-pick-up-truck-radio-usa-230.html Pretty sure I am going with the USA-230. Factory look, decent output and and not too many bells and whistles. I am looking for a...

Why do older cars smell different?

For me it's the smell of a diesel. Even better is a diesel running straight home brew bio diesel. My coworkers told me my truck smelled like I was making french fries. Pretty cool.

    Hard Start - SOLVED

I think you need to listen to Shorty and verify timing. Too much advance can really make an engine drag on start up. And yes, sometimes it will start fine, but most of the time it will sound like yours.

    Tailgate interchange

Just looked. Mine is the 2nd design 76-80. Thanks

    Tailgate interchange

Yup. Looks like the white one is a 1st design 73-76 and the other one is 76-80 both having the Chevrolet centered on the gate. Thanks and nice pics. Very helpful.

    Tailgate interchange

Selling it without hardware. It does still have the hinge sockets on it. Asking $40 on Craigslist Flint Mi I'll take a look at the striker pin holes and see if I can narrow it down as to exact design. Thanks for the replies.

    Tailgate interchange

I have a tailgate for sale that a friend gave me. It is either a 73-76 1st design or 76-80 second design. It has Chevrolet in large letters centered. Then there is the 81-87 gate with chevy shifted over to the right. My question are all those gates interchangeable if looks aren't important...

    Rough Idle / lower RPM

Picked up a Felpro # 60482 carb mounting gasket From O'Reilly's, $9.00. got it installed and got my truck running GREAT again. Topped it off with a Felpro air cleaner gasket # 60038 and a Wix fuel filter # 33052. Surprised and pleased to see Made in USA on both Felpro. gaskets. Too bad the Wix...

    Rough Idle / lower RPM

Just got done replacing about 20' of old, cracked, dried out 5/32 vacuum hose which was about 15 different pieces. No improvement, but they still needed to be replaced. So then I sprayed Gumout Jetspray at the carb to manifold gasket and voila the engine smoothed out and RPM can up as long as I...

    Rough Idle / lower RPM

Well it wasn't the EGR valve. Engine ran the same with the EGR delete plate installed. Good news is I didn't break any bolts, the EGR got cleaned and I know I will be able to replace the EGR when needed thanks to anti-seize on the bolts. Next will be replacing some vacuum lines as Craig 85...

    Rough Idle / lower RPM

Pulled the EGR. Not really what I was expecting design wise. Also looks fairly clean. not too much build up. Did a soapy water bubble test. Blowing air into the square side got a few very small bubbles around the plunger. Going to proceed with fabricating the block off plate and test without the...

    Rough Idle / lower RPM

Finally got some better weather here so popped the hood and did a little testing. So here is what I came up with. I do have vacuum coming from the ported vacuum switch to the EGR with warm engine off Idle. No vac at idle. The EGR does operate with a vacuum pump and engine vacuum. It also holds...
