Cool. The rear axle in both vans is a 14 bolt. The metallic red van that's on the trailer was more highly optioned and has a limited slip in the rear - they called it a "G80 Locking Differential" I got that van without a motor so I haven't driven it. Not too sure about the drive train...- scpike

Interesting - Ford axle too, huh? So you mentioned some mods for the 700R4 - what did you have in mind? I'm trying to decide if I should build one myself. It would be my first transmission rebuild and I read somewhere that they are one of the tougher ones to rebuild. But I've built my share...- scpike

I believe its a Dana 60. It is a 10 bolt. Yup, the 205 is the Ford version, and I think you're right. They just had to go the other way with it.- scpike

OK HotRodPC, I'll try to do that. I plan to stick in a new motor too. and with all that I probably need to go through the NP205 and the GM corporate rear as well. It will be a summer project, I think. Thanks for the info today. Much appreciated!!- scpike

I'm hoping that a 700R4 will bolt up. Other than the TV cable issue and moving the mount back, is there anything else I should worry about or be aware of? How do you guys update the shift indicator on the steering column? These vans had the old school steering columns in them and the ignition...- scpike

Yeah the key for me is to have enough tailshaft length to get through the tailshaft housing/NP205 adapter and to go to the 31 or 32 spline count (I can never get the same count twice) needed by the NP205. Nope, not from Alaska - about 30 miles east of Denver in Colorado :-) She's a beast, to be sure. Most excellent in snow. I was hoping to re-use the adapter if the 700R4 output shaft is the same.- scpike
