Looks nice! I had a back up cam in my work truck that didn't require any cutting. You can get a camera that has a Bluetooth connection to a regular GPS.

Looks nice, I have a 1987 V30 short bed. Can you measure the hub to hub distance of your long bed? Nothing exact just eyeball it within a couple of inches. I can't find the difference anywhere. My short wheel base is about 135" hub to hub or wheel center to wheel center.

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

The current load of the tank and 750 gallons of water is 6525 lbs even adding an approximate weight of 500 lbs for the flat bed would keep it well under the 8600 lbs. But once I fill the tank completely it will be 1000 gallons at 8,300 lbs plus the 300 lbs for the tank. I think the flat bed...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

I think I already have the stock axel overloaded. But I think it is working due to the fact that it only travels about 10 miles loaded.

Forgot to say...Thanks for all the input!

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

I measured the approximate distance between the front wheel steering line and the stock rear axel, then added an estimated center created by mounting the second axel. My stock short wheel base truck has about a 133" wheel base that would get extended to about 153". What is the wheel base of a...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

If I do move the rear axel forward it negates what I am trying to do. I need more rear support. Will this only be a problem on tight turns? Most on road turns are broad radius turns, then when I am positioning the truck to empty the tank I am on dirt which will be tighter turns on a more...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

So you are saying that the distance between the front and rear axels will be too long for the vehicle to turn correctly? Is the second axel moving the pivot point of the rear axles behind the stock axel? That is interesting because I have only done alignment work on light duty trucks with...

    Leaf springs need help

I used SD Truck Springs when I replaced the suspension on my V30. The fronts are a reverse flex and both look like you described. But if it 'drives like a boat' to me that sounds like worn out shocks. The springs will affect the ride height. I replaced all mine because of the same thing you...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

TBI stroker...Bored .040" over giving it 388 cid and making 420 ftbs at only 2000 rpm. Built for work, forged crank, 4 bolt main, 10.5:1 compression with hypereutectic pistons, custom Comp cam, full roller valve train, with stock heads, intake, and exhaust manifolds into a balanced dual...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

Yes, I figured that since the factory rivets them to the frame that I will bolt them to the frame. The plan (so far) is to box the rear part of the frame where the second axel will go to beef it up and make a surface to mount the hangers.

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

Vbb199 - I am currently planning on putting the second axel springs inside the frame and that's a great idea to just weld the spring mounts an inch higher than the stock ones. Thanks! BTY - A short wheel base dually 4X4 never goes down a paved road in a straight line unless you are helping it...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

Maybe an air bag like this with normal springs would keep the wheels off the ground when unloaded, then increase the air pressure when loaded.

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

Yes, that is a 1000 gallon tank on the truck. I have new HD springs with helper springs on that axel. Currently I can only put 750 gallons in the tank which is 6225 lbs plus the 350 lbs for the tank and fittings. But this is more about building a cool truck. Yes the truck is overloaded, but...

1987 V30 Dual rear wheel axles?

I just located a rear axel assembly at a local junk yard and of course I was told it only had about 45K miles on it. Have you ever been told that it came from a high mileage vehicle when buying parts at a junk yard? They always seem to come from 45K mile vehicles. This one is from a 1970...

    1987 GMC V2500 TBI 350/TH400 Thermostat Help!

I'll politely disagre...it is the radiator that determines the operating temperature of the engine. What I was talking about is how the thermostat helps the radiator by controlling the flow rate of the coolant. Other than that it only controls the point that the coolant begins to flow.

    1987 GMC V2500 TBI 350/TH400 Thermostat Help!

The opening temperature of the thermostat does not control the operating temperature of the engine. It only sets the temperature at which the coolant starts flowing. So the lower the opening temperature the longer it will take for the engine to reach operating temperature. If the Robert Shaw...

    1986 Sierra Hard Start Intermittent

What did they do at the parts store to check the starter? Did they just hook it up electrically and see that it spins freely? That doesn't prove much, you need a load on it like it has trying to turn over the engine to be sure it's good. Sounds like a bad starter to me, at least I would start...

    Cam Suggestions

A lot of good advice above. If you're looking for sound look into what mufflers you want. You can go with different length glass pack style ones to get some good sound. But most of that sound is made from a combo of the cam overlap and the compression ratio. A big drag racing cam will lope...

Divorced coil ignition system - What is the correct module connector?

I don't know if there is a way I can update the first post, but I did get the connectors in today and the one in the original post is for smaller guage wires. Use this link for the one that fits the correct wire guage. https://www.customconnectorkits.com/12162188/ Here is a pic of it...

    BBC Headers, A Question....

    Cluster install for DUMMIES...help

Don't get over worried about it...remember just one wire/circuit at a time. Print a copy that you don't mind writing on and cross each of the circuits off as you complete them. I will be passing by close enough to stop for about an hour mid day on Thursday the 28th. I can answer questions and...
