I had a 79 Z28 that was set up like that. It turned 'bout 1K rpms per 20mph. #K @ 60mph had her whining pretty good. Might have had smaller tires, can't remember. Online calculators indicate I should do 75mph@3K rpms. Ultimate goal is to have a T56 or maybe a stout 5 speed OD...

Is a Spark Plug...a Spark Plug??

The 7516 is apparently for use with cast iron heads (.46 reach)......I have aluminum (.75 reach)...... Maybe the cold range is to dissipate heat to the aluminum heads faster?? I have Hedman headers. They were about the only ones I could find which were designed for use with mechanical clutch...

    350 Distributor Recommendations

After reading that I needed to use a Melanized gear distributor with my LT4 Hot Roller Cam, I opted for the MSD Streetfire. I bought a factory refurb off old ol' ebay for under a C-note. The Skip White would have cost me that much by the time I swapped out the gear. I did see a Streetfire on...

Is a Spark Plug...a Spark Plug??

In my engine build, I need 14mm reach plugs. For my aluminum heads, the machine shop recommends NGK R5671A-7 or 8. I understand that the -7 or 8 signifies heat ranges, with 8 being colder than 7, In order to give better clearance around the headers, I would benefit from the use of shorty plugs...

    Pilot Bearing

Yup. I've seen bread and paper soaked in water to keep the water from just squirting out. The truck it came out of was automatic, but it was not the original engine........ No serial # (S/N on a sticker...) so I couldn't track it to its roots........

    Pilot Bearing

The 350 which I purchased has a needle pilot bearing in the crank. Any chance this is reusable? The time is now to replace it, I guess. I've seen some neat tricks to remove pilot bearings, like grease or wet paper pieces to exert hydraulic pressure to remove the bearings. Should these work on...

The cam is a GM cam, and the stock iron gears are s'posed to work fine. I did verify that with Willhoite's Cams, the supplier of the camshaft. Are there different replacement or aftermarket distributors for ESC/nonESC ??

My truck originally came with the LE9 305 engine, but it has been replaces with an 86 or newer 1pc rear main seal engine. Vacuum switches on the firewall are there, but are not in use. However I need to check for ESC controller and ESC distributor. It may have been moved from original engine to...

    350 Distributor Recommendations

Should I just transfer the distributor in the existing 305? Dunno if advance specs would be optimal.. There is a distributor that came with the 350, but out of a 93 C1500. It used an external coil. Maybe that would work with the 84 cap/coil??

Thin Head Gasket and Comprtession Ratio

The machine shop squared everything off the main bearing bores. In essence they will have achieved the same result.

Picked up the block today. All is good. Twas a good thing to have done, as the banks were a tad out of square and not quite flat. Perfect now from a dimensional standpoint.
