    Windshield antenna connection

I’m thinking the answer is nobody! Haven’t had time to address this problem yet. I will post back when I do. Here’s a picture of the challenge.

    Windshield antenna connection

I had a new windshield installed this week and the plug for the antenna is too close to the gasket to get the snap fitting of the antenna wire into the button on the windshield. I’m thinking this is a job for an exacto knife. I’m going to cut a bit of relief in the gasket. Anybody every run...

    What is this??

Yeah. You want that. It’s the vacuum torque converter lock up control. Basically you unlock your converter two ways: one is pressing the brakes, one is pressing the accelerator. In this era, the vacuum switch monitored for a drop in vacuum and sent a signal to the trans tc to unlock. It’s a...

    Air conditioning

I would check the charge as well. 3.2 lbs sounds very high. I think I got maybe 36 oz (about 3 cans) or less (my memory is 2.5-ish cans) in my 85 305 A/C unit earlier this year when I repaired it (meaning I put a new delco compressor on it and changed over to R134a). Edit: I may be off on my...

    Air conditioning

Yeah. Sounds to me like you may have missed some crud that got to your orifice tube. Is there any chance you didn’t blow out the lines from the condenser to the orifice tube completely while flushing? You said you flushed the parts but did you flush the hard line ahead of the orifice tube...

    Little tips and tricks

Great ideas. Here’s one I learned recently: if you have front posts on your battery with the threaded holes, and the hole strips, just use a short piece of soldering wire (lead) and insert it in the hole as you put the screw in. Tightens things right up.

Plastic door panel - thoughts / what I did

For sure. I'm not opposed to buying new / repop stuff for the truck in the right spots, but I'm all about cheering on ideas to bring old stuff back to life with a little elbow grease and creativity. I also think tastefully restored old stuff has more character. Now, things that are beyond...

Plastic door panel - thoughts / what I did

These turned out great. I’m thinking you should be taking a bow. That’s a really great outcome.

    Help me ID these seats

No seat belt buckles and no latches on the seat backs (they just flop). Not sure what direction I will go with them. I will have to see how they fit in the truck. I appreciate the help identifying these.

    Help me ID these seats

Ok. Here’s a photo of the two of them together. Left one is the original photo seat. Does that mean that I have two driver side seats? I had assumed they were off something that had a center console. Thanks for the guidance.

    Help me ID these seats

It’s just one. I did a 360 around it. I should have said “seat” in the title. I have both, photographed one. But they are the same size, so you raise a good question.

    Help me ID these seats

Hey guys. I have these bucket seats for an older c10 (66) build I’m contemplating, and am wondering if ya’ll could help me identify what they are off of. I figure the track type might ring a bell for someone. They look pretty distinct with the rolled edges of the tracks and mounts. Any help...

Can't get my vent windows out

Yeah, what he said... If you are only replacing the felts, you shouldn't have to remove the vent window. Are you sure you've removed all the felts from the channel down in the door? As to vent window removal (your first question), It looks like you tagged the two screws on the outer...

    6 Speed Swap

I have not done one but have a T56 sitting at the shop waiting for its next home. As I understand it the shifter location is a problem that CAN be solved for a truck but that requires some work. I'm hoping the experts can chime in on this one.

    Window motor

I did this one before I removed the vent window. The window was stuck closed because the actuator wasn’t working so there was no way I was going to get the vent window out without lowering the window. It ended up being not only a bad motor but one that must not have moved for years. The...

    Window motor

I swapped one out a few months ago. It honestly wasn’t that bad. It took a little jockeying to get the regulator untracked and Re-tracked but I think I did the whole in an hour and a half or so. I would say it was a 4/10 on the band aid scale and I have xxl hands. This YouTube was a good...

Correct timing and which vacuum port

What motor do you have? If you have a 305 then 12 BTDC is likely way too much initial timing. You are likely to get pinging. Stock is more like 4 degrees initial I think. The answer to manifold vs ported vacuum is only a debate. Big cams idle better on manifold vacuum because it adds a lot of...

ID this rocker step hole for me

Thanks. It came out pretty well given the problem and my chosen solution (welding a patch into it). I have the jambs painted but not sanded, cut or buffed and you can see a little bit of a dimple from my filler skills (or maybe just a little warp) where the ragged hole used to be. Luckily my...

ID this rocker step hole for me

Ok. I went back and looked at the listed truck and I'm thinking I'm on the wrong track. If it were rust proofing on MY truck, I would think both rockers would be drilled. The one listed is drilled on both sides. Mine only had the rust hole (a HOLE about the size of a quarter, with cancer all...

ID this rocker step hole for me

So I have been working on my 85 c10. One of the weird things about the truck is it is basically rust free on the cab and bed…EXCEPT it had a (bad) rust hole on the top of the driver side rocker. The rocker panel itself is solid but it had this relatively ragged hold in the top. I figured...

    Some vent window lessons learned

So I finally got to my vent windows. While I’m not going to post a thread on the finished product, or even post this like I’m an expert, I thought I might post a couple tips and lessons learned. First, there are a lot of decent videos on this and some that are not so decent. My take is that a...

How a carbureted engine should start and run cold

Thanks SirRobyn, I learned something there. Explains my truck's "roar" :)

How a carbureted engine should start and run cold

That fast idle looks slow to me. My '85 305 emissions decal (UHJ) says 1,800 RPM fast idle in P or N. It starts really well but roars a bit more than yours. Mine kicks down pretty quick, but definitely starts w/ higher RPMs. Yours looked like it stayed below 1K RPM from cold start. Is...
