    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

Couple ways: 1. Open up the rear and start counting teeth on the ring and pinion. 2. Jack up one side of the rear, put the transmission in neutral, and turn the wheel that is off the ground by hand 2 full revolutions while counting turns of the drive shaft. With one wheel turning (I'm...

Fixing vapor lock now that I barely made it home, experience with 3 port filters?

Unless a certified mechanic has a different view, here’s mine: Vapor lock is unlikely at Highway speed. Lots of airflow across the engine and fuel flow into the engine vs fuel being pulled and boiled in the lines sitting in traffic. Now if you were sitting in traffic on a hot day, then yes...

    Rebuilding Front Suspension

Maybe an unpopular opinion but a lot of the front end rebuild kits promoted on the web are cheap chinesium. I would be careful since a bad component might not be obvious until a few miles down the road and redo’s are costly.

    Mark IV 454 Engine Build

I understand it’s a hobby and people sometimes like to build the biggest and baddest, but I’m really starting to appreciate the simplicity of a mild cam. Startable, runnable, drivable, and the brakes work. You also don’t have to rejigger stock components to “fit” with an rpm range most of us...

I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much

Yeah, the part I left out of my 2 hour round trip last weekend was that the heater core started leaking. I'm actually pretty OK with "something to fix" vs. "truck left me stranded." I always have something to fix, and haven't yet been left stranded. Granted I don't daily drive my truck. My...

I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much

There's a lot of passion in this thread. Modern trucks ride and handle extremely well. My '95 long bed handles and rides really well...for a 40 year old vehicle. I took it on a 2.5 hr round trip last weekend and it cruises really smoothly on the interstate at 70. It will never be as quiet...

    10W-40 for Chevy 350

Valve seals. I just did mine in my 85 305. Made a world of difference in both smoke at startup and smoke at idle (my guess is vacuum was pulling oil in past the intake seal). With a spring compressor and an air compressor with a spark plug adapter to pressurize the cylinders, it took me...

1980 C10 backfires through carb under load

1.check firing order. Ask me how I know. 2. Careful with the advice here. 305 is a different animal. Timing is more like 4-5 BTDC base.

Who sells the best fitting dash pad. Time for a new one

Usa-1 is great but it’s unobtanium. I bought one for my 85 a couple years ago and love it. Have been waiting for an 80 version for 10 months now. Can’t recommend them.

    1980 SBC 350 w/Quadrajet Carb

If you pour a little gas down the throat of the carb, you can help rule out the carb as an issue. The engine should at least fire with gas poured into the carb. If you are getting some backfire through the carb, I would bet it's a timing issue. But, with an engine that has been sitting that...

Flash rust after ospho rinse question.

You can definitely over think this. "Flash rust" is in the eye of the beholder. For me, a very little bit of copper coloring that comes up between rinsing the panel and blowing it dry with clean, dry shop air is not going to cause a bit of an issue with an SPI epoxy coating. I would...

    Loose motor mounts? Please help

On your rumbling on, just do a search for “dieseling” and you should find a lot of causes and cures. Usually it’s excessive air leaking into the engine via throttle plates or another vacuum leak.

    Transmission paint

I don't know exactly. The Eastwood stuff is expensive. You can get cast blast fairly cheap and it would look fine.

    Ac not blowing cold

Your problem can range from a dirty connector to not having core components under the hood or dash. Not much the group can do until you post up some underhood pictures and/or more info, like: 1. Are all the components there? Compressor? Condenser? Accumulator? Pressure switch? Compressor...

    Another "Chevy Lean" conundrum

My first reaction is “man, it’s a truck…a half inch isn’t out of spec.” Second reaction is simply your rear leafs are fatigued. Did you swap the rear springs too? My 85 has lowering hangers on it and one side is in the higher bolt hole for just this reason.
