    1987 350 TBI code 42

hard to imagine its running well with code 42 set. this should help diagnose. if it isn't the ignition control module and the EST wire is plugged in, I'd expect to have to carefully evaluate the ICM and coil connectors and wires to look for the issue. a quick check on the EST wire would be to...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

ECM can't tell of the cat is clogged. I had a miss at idle and under low vac/low RPM situations. it went away after I replaced my exhaust system. it was driving me nuts. I can only assume it was the cat....

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

if the code 34 is intermittent, check the vacuum lines again and wiggle the harness around and see if you can get it to throw the code again. take the sensor out of the bracket and move/twist it to manipulate the harness. you might also consider running some ac delco top end engine cleaner...

Code 24, when going down hill.

loss of VSS signal indicates a wire may be broken or mostly broken and going down hill moves it just right so it loses connection. I'd be looking at the harness to the VSS running alongside the transmission and/or transfer case as the most likely spot for an issue like that. just fyi - I had...

Lacking power, 87 Sierra 5.7l TBI

if the tach is jumping around even though the engine seems to be at constant RPM, there could be extra references from a poor distributor (ICM) ground or interference from the plug wires being too close to distributor/coil wires.

    New TBI injectors causing surging

are you running a stock engine and stock PROM chip? if not, maybe somebody has modded the engine and has tuned the PROM chip and installed different flow rate injectors. are there any numbers to compare on the old injectors to new injectors?

    New TBI injectors causing surging

save the money on throwing parts at it and use it to get ALDLDroid and a Bluetooth OBD1 cable to diagnose. it will save money on parts in the long run.

    Water on drivers floor

been a minute since I've done it, but if you fed something down from the cowl and it came out there, that's gotta be it. I just remember not being able to fit my hands in there very well and using a stick. I kept flushing water from the cowl to push stuff down and using the stick to help pull...

    New TBI injectors causing surging

Biggest change when the engine gets warm is that it goes into closed loop operation and starts using the O2 sensor feedback to adjust fuel. What condition is the O2 sensor in? Strange that it only happens with new injectors. Maybe the old injectors are dirty and even though the computer is...

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

I bet it is off about 25% too high bc of the tach being not set up for a v8. 3500 x 0.75 is 2625 RPM

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

good question about the tach. I am not that familiar with aftermarket tachometers or if there are different types, etc.. but at 3500 rpm the engine should definitely be making some noise. that can be used as a quick reality check on the tach readout. is the engine really screaming at 55mph?

    Water on drivers floor

I still think the drains are clogged at least partially. stuff gets in there and bridges across the gap and water seeps in when it pools up. it is a dirty job to clean/flush/clean/flush until nothing else can be pulled out with a stick. but after I cleaned mine, I couldn't overwhelm it with a...

    Water on drivers floor

I had to remove a piece of foam and use a stick to keep pulling stuff down, then flush with water, and repeat until no more came down when I have cleaned mine.
