    Numerous Lighting Issues

Vehicle has multiple problems attack them one at a time. Get a wiring diagram and start tracing circuits out. Be sure and follow grounds. A bad ground can cause feedback. Check the wiring plug for cluster is wired correctly and matches printed circuit. Most of the wiring on these trucks is a...

    Eliminating vacuum lines

Some of the vacuum diagrams are posted here. Do not start ripping and tearing it out unless you understand what everything does. There are endless threads here about people doing just that. Then they need help because something doesn't work correctly.

I think I figured out my brake problem

grove is factory. Being captured rotors, given the time involved replace. Even if they are within spec and have enough material to machine, the end product will have less mass to absorb and dissipate heat.

    Dually Rims

Very true, had one customer that installed aluminum wheels that were not hub centric. He wasn't paying attention and did not inspect the wheels. Snapped the studs off dropping the backing plate/brk drum on the ground at 35 mph. Did lots of damage.

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Feel your pain. After installing literally hundreds of engines I have come to the conclusion rebuilt engines are a crap shoot. For a time every rebuilt engine I installed had one issue or another. Some minor others requiring replacement. Factory rebuilt or new was better. All you can do is...

I believe 3M still makes an eraser wheel to fit a drill for removing the glue.

dies at low idle speeds, when put into gear and when stopped.

ALDL stands for assembly line diagnostic link. Yes I agree most codes did not point to "this part needs to be replaced". Lean was a common code. Most sensors could be eliminated with data or sweep. Although I don't fall into the replace parts and see if it fixes it category, to save...

dies at low idle speeds, when put into gear and when stopped.

Some of the early Ford OBD1 stuff didn't have a scanable data stream, I agree. GM TBI is a simple system fairly easy to diagnose.

dies at low idle speeds, when put into gear and when stopped.

Yes hard to diagnose with little information. When did this start? A good inspection for tune up related items, plugs, timing, could reveal a lot. Could be as simple as adjusting idle speed. No computers on these trucks.

    87 y-pipe

Common for Y pipes distort from heat over time and can be a PITA to reinstall. Pry bar is likely needed.

How many freeze plugs on a 350 SBC?

Will add most 2 bolt mains were 2 soft plugs per side, 4 bolt mains were 3. Back in my racing days we cheated rules by using a 2 bolt block [with aftermarket splayed caps] claiming it was a 350 which it wasn't. Was a 400 block with 350 crank.

    Rochester Quadrajet issue

When choke is completely warmed fast idle on right side shouldn't change idle speed. Either choke isn't warmed enough [no preheat], bad choke thermostat [check for open circuit ohm it] linkage is stuck and/or not adjusted correctly. Try pushing down on the fast idle cam with a finger. Needs 12v...

    14 bolt brake cleanup

Old shoes can cause all sorts of issues. Toss them out. Remove the hub, clean/buff spindle area replace seal. This is one place where trying to save time or money isnt worth the risk.

Uneven rear main seal, help needed.

That condition is real odd. Could the seal housing be bent? It's an aluminum piece, careless removal or dropping the engine could easily bend it. Provided the crank doesn't have runout I would find another housing.

    E-brake sticking after rebuild

If emergency cables stick and don't return completely the self adjusters will take up, over adjust and wear the shoes out. This is one item that can't be repaired, replace. Did look at the assembly pictures nothing obviously wrong sticks out.

    E-brake sticking after rebuild

Crawl underneath and pull on the cables by hand. They should retract completely when released. I replace many cables when doing brake jobs. It's one area that seems to get easily overlooked.

    Nylon cam gear years

That's one of the diagnostic procedures I use for a non running engine. Can't explain seeing more Pontiacs either. I think most of them were 389 grocery getters. Just remember doing a lot more Pontiacs than other brand. Could be as simple as more sold in the area, who knows. Was a money maker...

    Nylon cam gear years

Some of the 90's and up GM V-8's came with a single roller chain. Replaced several high millage motors and frankly the chain was tight enough to reinstall. Wonder if this was a replacement for plastic? Back in the late 70'S and early 80's I replaced a ton of failed Pontiac plastic timing...

Let me tickle your brains about stall issue.

Besides choke, there should be 2 choke pull-offs that can be adjusted. When a carb is rebuilt there are base settings however every engine is different. Most times a little tweaking is needed.

Am I Crazy? Lincoln Drive Train Swap

Our company bought one F350 Ford with a 460. Comparing to a 454 absolutely horrible. No power, about 2 mpg less [7 vs 9] harder to pass emissions, more time consuming to repair. I really wanted an option other than GM at the time. Tired several cams and carbs, really no improvement over factory...

    R4 Compressor Help

Have seen a bunch of them fail. That being said, our company had good luck both R12 and 134A units. Several trucks had 300k on original compressors. Had all the equipment to recycle the refrigerant. Generally any time the compressors were in the way I yanked em, just easier. During recharge...

Have seen offshore ball joints that are too stiff. What is the caster reading? Was everything lubed? Don't mess with anything else.
