Opinions on best newish Suburban or Tahoe

Yeah the first few years of that gen 6.2 didn't get the AFM/DOD stuff, I know several people with Denalis and Eskys of that vintage with high miles and no mechanical issues. Heck, another forum guy I know just picked up an '08/09 Esky literally out a field with like 225k on it, got it going...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Yep, they're all either $2 or $3 to get into if it's a self service yard. It's either that or the yard won't let you go in at all, you just tell them what you need and they pull it

Yeah these yards have quite a few NBS trucks in them. There were 6 Escalades at one and 4 at the other. Guess I know what I'm gonna start doing more regularly

Looking back at those pictures of the bumper pad, I realized that truck had a hood on it. I didn't even look at it and looking at their inventory, it was an '06. FAK. Guess I'm going back tomorrow lol. It's worth the $2 entry to see if that's a good HD/'06-07 hood. Can't believe I didn't look today

Also grabbed a 2500HD cluster from another yard so I'd have a trans temp gauge for $100. These are guys I've gotten to know well, they said it all worked perfectly so I trust them. Otherwise I'd have haggled

AutoZone also called me and said my AVS Ventshades were in, so I picked those up. This is the 4th set I've ordered for this stupid truck. Either wrong parts sent or offbrand swapped in. Finally got the right ones and put them on last night when I got home Then did more junkyarding today...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

Had to go junkyarding for work yesterday. Scored a full set of smooth, painted Suburban fender flares for $48. These should work just fine on my truck, I'll just have to trim off that little tail on the 2 rears Also grabbed a full set of Escalade interior handles for $3/ea A good idler...

So that took over 4hrs total. After that I moved onto repairing the RR window. This was easy as pie, took less than 30min 2 bolts on the RH track 2 bolts on the LH track and 1 on the motor bracket That little clamp you see here with the 10mm nut is the clamp that holds onto the window...

Sunday I came up to the shop to get some more work done. Started by pulled out the original transmission lines. They fought a good fight, 2.5hrs later I finally had them wrestled out. Made a huge mess lol Made the new lines out of -6 AN nylon braided line and slipped some Lava Shield I had...

    Tailgate hinge/trunnion rot

Yikes, the easiest thing would be to replace the bedsides completely but that's def not the cheapest. You could always find a donor bed and cut that area out to weld into yours

    retrosound.. is it enough

I had a Retrosound in my truck with some 6x9 Pioneers in the corners and stock dash speakers for a long time. It certainly wasn't the best but it wasn't bad. Would be plenty for most people

Truck won’t turn. What’s that sound?

^This. I hear no issue from that video. The high pitched whine is just the bendix in the starter retracting and slowing back down till it starts. You normally don't hear that if the engine lights off and runs, you just hear it cuz the engine died

What have you done to your square lately??

Swapped my front tires from side to side cuz I’m getting pretty low on the insides and the LH wears worse. Gotta buy a little more time LH - RH. So I flipped ‘em, maybe I can get another 2-3k miles lol Also…dirtyyyyyy

    Remove O2Sensor

PB Blaster, PB Blaster, maybe a 3rd day of PB Blaster, drive it to get it good and hot, then more PB and pull it out hot

What have you done to your square lately??

It's a shame, cuz it does look good cleared. Just doesn't last. My buddy had his '86 polished (Rick, SQRBDY, the red and white single cab if you ever watch the UBT road trips) and ceramic'd like I mentioned and it looks fantastic, even 2 years and many miles later

What have you done to your square lately??

I would highly suggest, beg almost, for you not to clear your truck. Mine is cleared over patina and I wish so much they'd never done that. It looked great when I bought it but now it's blowing off in sheets and in many other places it's lifting and making a weird, bubbled/hazy look before it...

What have you done to your square lately??

I sold a pristine, low mile '03 Mach1 to build my current truck. I loved driving the car but I didn't drive it often cuz I was always worried about something happening to it. I enjoy my patina truck so much more

What have you done to your square lately??

Last Friday I washed the truck, it was NASTY from all the rain we've had and me driving it while the other truck has been down. I also put my new stickers on my new windshield, so everything is right with the world again lol

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

A couple guys around here I know that have done that have just slowly stripped the carcass down to a bare chassis and then sold that for scrap. Most scrap places around us don't want RVs but they'll take chassis for the steel. Kept some of the wood, paneling, plumbing, wiring, etc for other...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

No way. I bought a reman engine for a Camry a few years back and it only got 2k miles on it before it started having problems. A local engine builder or a reputable one like Blueprint is the only way to go. I'll never buy another engine from a no name "rebuilder" ever again

Man that sucks but at least they were good to work with it sounds like. Hopefully the next one goes better

Ahh, gotcha. Orion Motor Tech on Amazon. Looked identical to the DeeZee version and was half the price. I knew it was a gamble
