    I know when I was working on them back then they most always had a aluminum nylon coated upper gear. GM did that to help quiet down the gear noise.. at least that what the factory rep told me. I always replaced them with an all steel upper gear when I did the work

    Thought I was done then the white smoke came

    If you have an automatic and the modulator is bad it can pull trans fluid in to the intake and when the Trans fluid burns it will spew out as white smoke from the exhaust pipe... Ask me how I know ??

    Might try by putting piston at BDC and using a hone but if they are too deep it's noit likely you will restore the compression on that on without a bore job..

    Yes the short in front and the long in rear... The problem started with the factory shoes. I thought maby new shoes and turning the drums would correct the prob... I am the second owner and it has 55,200 original miles on it...Thanks

    I believe the bars from the motor mounts to the lower half cast trans bell housing are there to support the trans and stop it from flexing on the back of the motor and causing transmission front seal leaks and or front bushing and front pump failure in the transmission..

    That tool works great... I used one for 25 years... Broke the ceramic off a plug and welded a male QD fitting on it to charge the cylinder and hold the valve closed to put the umbrella seal on...
