    Grinding noise with part-time 203

Finally getting around to the tcase and found my answer last night. I found the old kit that was taken out at my parents house and the gears were stripped. Don't have a picture of them but its pretty obvious. I took the tailshaft cover off the tcase last night and found this underneath! Don't...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Well I finally got it finished last weekend! Hopefully it'll actually work when I go to put it in the truck... :) Unfortunately, that won't happen until the spring sometime though. I'll report back when that happens. I was hoping to have this rebuilt in a few weekends but it ended up taking 3...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Yahtzee! So after thinking about it and reading some more, I realized that that wide direct drum bushing can't be bottomed out and needed to come up a little! (I had it seated on the inner lip of the hub). I'm sure this is what you guys were talking about...but I'm a newb. I pressed it up to the...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Alright well I'm still fighting this thing. Last night i took it apart (again) to inspect the bushing surfaces and to see if they were seated to the correct depth and everything looked fine. I put some tranny fluid on the bushings, reassebled everything (again) and still don't have any endplay...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Crazy, I think I read your previous thread about your problem over the weekend. I replaced all the bushings in this tranny except for the ones in the pump stator. I also used the wider direct drum bushing... I'm wondering if I didn't get it positioned correctly as well, but I haven't had time to...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Hotrod, I agree that if anything, it should have more end play...but it doesn't. I'm about 99% sure I have had it indexed correctly at least once with the amount of times I've taken out the drum assemblies out and put them back in. See my next responses... I will look at the friction lugs...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Well it turns out I just didn't have enough lube on the stator teflon rings and they weren't sealing to the forward drum... I tried putting the metal ones in but ended up breaking the hooks on 2 of them so they're trashed... So I just put the teflon ones back in and called it good. Moral of...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Just a little update. Been busy with the newborn so the rebuild has gone to a crawl as far as progress... To catch everyone up though, I've got it put back together up to the point where I need to air check the drums/pump assembly. Actually, I tried to check the forward clutch today at lunch...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Thanks for responding. I went down and looked at it tonight and the holes on the gasket are actually already bigger than .125 so I don't need to do anything with them... Probably should have looked into that before I posted last night.:)

    My TH350 Rebuild

This may be a dumb question but just wanted to make sure before I screw anything up: When drilling the 2nd and 3rd gear feed holes, do you drill both the separator plate AND paper gasket? If so, how do you go about drilling out the gasket? Just drill it by itself, or under the separator...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Ok so I made some progress last night and got down to the low/reverse apply piston. Now I need to talk to my buddy's dad and borrow his compression tool to get the reverse piston apart as well as the clutch drums/packs. I ended up using a pulley puller to remove the planetary gear set off...

    My TH350 Rebuild

OK so I started tear down tonight and got to where the front planetary sits on the sun gear splines but couldn't get it off!? I removed the c-clip but it can't get over the splines in front of where the c-clip sits. It kind of looks like there is some wear/chips/burs on those teeth which isn't...

    My TH350 Rebuild

I called them today and they said they found one one the shelf but needed to order more. Would be a few days before they got more in. I won't get to tear into it till this weekend at the earliest and want to look over the bushings and steels and other parts before ordering anything.

    My TH350 Rebuild

New led strip lights and tranny jel showed up today! Still waiting on my pig mat and Ron sessions book to show up before tear down...

    My TH350 Rebuild

So I'm looking at what "extras" to do to the tranny while rebuilding. This truck will mostly just see light duty driving around but may see some heavier use as well. Maybe a little towing; maybe some plowing. It's going behind the tired, original 400 motor that may one day get rebuilt as well...

By the way TIC - thanks for those pictures of your homemade tools. I'm pretty sure I can rig something up like those.

    My TH350 Rebuild

I'm not sure what you mean by that first sentence. It will all get rearranged. I just had a neighbor who happened to be available and came over to help bring the tranny downstairs into the basement so I just put it down there while I had help. :) Don't worry about the beer fridge; this was just...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Also, I took some pictures of the other trannys and crossmember for our other truck. Can someone tell me why there are different crossmembers for a 4x4 and does that affect anything as far as the other tranny for the spare truck? Do I need a different tranny for the different crossmember? The...

    My TH350 Rebuild

Ok got the tranny out friday night (around 4am...:Insane:). I was happy to see a big "K" on the top of the housing! Got it down in the basement tonight after powerwashing it quickly to clean it off some. Now time to start tearing it down, taking pics and giving them to my brother to get hot tanked.

    My TH350 Rebuild

Finished cleaning my new winter work space. And yes that is the beer fridge peeking out on the left... Ordered some LED light strips to put up for more light. Should be here next week. Will be attempting to remove the tranny from the truck tonight as long as the wife doesn't go into...

    My TH350 Rebuild

I would love to see that thread. And the hole in the table is gonna be my first "tool" for this job. :) Talked to my buddy's Dad last night. He said I can borrow his homemade compressor tool and if I get stuck he can come over and help reassemble. TIC - do you have a picture of your homemade...
